Destination and options
Destination passed through at cost; factory options priced at the brand’s researched option ratio.
Basis and verification
Which level answered (trim, model, brand or segment) and whether independent evidence confirmed it.

Confidence
A score with plain-language reasons, so you can decide what to show your users.

Invoice API — frequently asked questions
Is there an API for dealer invoice prices?
Yes. The CarWhere Invoice API returns the estimated dealer invoice for a new vehicle, by VIN or by year, make, model and trim. Each response includes the invoice range, holdback, destination, which level of our dataset answered (trim, model, brand or segment) and how well that figure is verified. Access is licensed with an API key.
Where does the invoice data come from?
CarWhere researched invoice-to-MSRP ratios trim by trim for 31 brands that sell through dealers, from published pricing, manufacturer order guides, government fleet contracts and owner-posted invoices, then checked them against independent sources. The ratio is applied to the vehicle’s own MSRP, so the estimate follows the actual build rather than a generic table.
Is dealer invoice the same as the dealer’s cost?
No. Invoice is what the manufacturer bills the dealer. The dealer’s true cost is usually lower after holdback (often 1–3% of MSRP or invoice, depending on the brand) and any dealer cash, which is why buyers sometimes pay under invoice. The API returns holdback separately so you can show both.
How accurate is it?
Every model carries a verification level. "Confirmed" means independent evidence matched our researched figure; 232 of 350 models are confirmed today. "Researched" means the figure is researched but not yet independently matched, and "generic" means a segment fallback was used. Factory options are priced at the brand’s option ratio where researched.
Which brands are covered?
Acura, Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, Genesis, GMC, Honda, Hyundai, Infiniti, Jaguar, Jeep, Kia, Lexus, Lincoln, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, MINI, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Porsche, Ram, Subaru, Toyota, Volkswagen and Volvo. Brands that sell direct (Tesla, Rivian, Lucid) have no dealer invoice.
