Used Camaro: generations and model years

Used Camaros for sale span 2 generations in CarWhere's data. Knowing which generation a listing belongs to tells you which engines, recalls and known issues apply.

6th generation (2016–2024) · 2016–2024

The last Camaro, and the most recent generation. A 275-hp 2.0L turbo four powered the cheapest versions, including the 1LS added for 2017, until the four-cylinder was dropped and the V6 became the base engine for 2024. Chevrolet closed out the generation with a Collector's Edition package, and production ended in January 2024. Prices below are 2024 coupe MSRPs; convertibles cost $6,000 more, and every trim offered a six-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic.

5th generation (2010–2015) · 2010–2015

The retro-styled revival of the Camaro. The V6 LS and LT and the V8 SS carried the lineup, with the supercharged ZL1 and the track-focused Z/28 added at the top late in the run. Prices below are 2015 coupe MSRPs before the $995 destination charge.

What to check before buying a used Camaro

  1. Run the VIN for title brands (salvage, rebuilt, flood, lemon buyback), odometer history and reported accidents before you go see it.
  2. Check the VIN for open safety recalls and confirm the dealer will complete any open campaign before delivery.
  3. Decode the VIN or pull the build sheet to confirm the engine, drivetrain, trim and options match the listing.
  4. Look for uneven panel gaps and paint that does not match — signs of prior bodywork.
  5. On performance trims, ask about track use and check tire wear, brake rotors and clutch engagement (manuals).
  6. Get an independent pre-purchase inspection — especially for suspension, brakes, tires and any fluid leaks.
  7. Ask for service records, and confirm how much factory warranty is left from the original in-service date.
  8. Negotiate the vehicle price first, then fees; refuse dealer add-ons you did not ask for.

Frequently asked questions

How much should I pay for a Camaro?

Start from the starting MSRP of the trim you want — 2024 Camaro pricing begins at $30,900 — and negotiate the selling price as a discount off MSRP, before rebates and with no dealer add-ons. CarWhere doesn't have enough verified Camaro deals yet to publish a median discount. A used Camaro's price depends on year, mileage and condition, so compare several listings near you before you make an offer.

When is the best time to buy a Camaro?

CarWhere's best-time research finds that new-car discounts have historically been largest from October through December, and January is strongest for used cars. But the seasonal edge is small: average discounts in CarWhere's verified deals move by only a point or two between periods. Negotiating the price matters more than the calendar.

Should I buy a new or used Camaro?

Used, the main alternative is the 6th generation (2016–2024), and 1 older generation goes back to 2010–2015. Before you buy a used one, check its recall history, and run the VIN for title and accident history.
