The 2025 Murano redesign: VC-Turbo replaces the V6

For 2025 Nissan replaced the Murano's long-running 3.5-liter V6 and CVT with a 2.0-liter VC-Turbo four-cylinder and a 9-speed automatic with paddle shifters. Output is 241 hp and 260 lb-ft, against 260 hp for the 2024 V6.

EPA rates the 2027 Murano AWD at 21 city / 27 highway / 23 combined mpg.[2][7][4]

Xtronic CVT basics

The 2003 Murano was the first North American vehicle with Nissan's Xtronic CVT as standard. Nissan describes it as “one gear”: a belt between two pulleys whose working diameters vary continuously, keeping the engine in its best power range without steps between gears. Every Murano from 2003 through 2024 used a CVT; EPA lists the 2025 and later Murano with a 9-speed automatic.[9][5]

Murano Dark Armor (2027)

New for 2027 between SL and Platinum, the Dark Armor costs $46,990. It has gloss black 21-inch wheels, sporty bumpers and lower side moldings, gloss black badges and Graphite interior upholstery.[1]

Nissan Murano problems and recalls

The most serious documented Murano problem is an ABS actuator that can leak brake fluid onto its circuit board and start a fire on 2015–2018 models, covered by recalls 16V636, 18V601 and 19V807. A 2025 class settlement extended transmission coverage on 2015–2018 Muranos to 84 months or 84,000 miles, and earlier models have intake duct and power steering hose recalls.
