Free Embed
VIN Decoder Widget for Your Website
Give your forum, owner club, or dealer site a working VIN decoder in under a minute. One copy-paste snippet, no API key, no signup — decoding runs on the official NHTSA database via CarWhere, so there's nothing for you to maintain.
Running a brand community? Pick the brand so your embed links straight to that decoder.

How it works
- 1Pick a variant — the universal decoder, or a brand-specific version for your community.
- 2Paste the snippet where you want the decoder to appear (sidebar, footer, resources page, or a dedicated tools thread).
- 3Visitors enter a 17-character VIN and get the full federal decode — year, model, trim, engine, plant, and recalls — on CarWhere in a new tab.
Widget FAQ
Is the VIN decoder widget really free?
Yes — free for any website, with no API key, account, or usage cap. The widget opens the decode on carwhere.com, powered by the federal NHTSA vPIC database, so there is nothing for your site to maintain and no cost to pass on.
What platforms does the widget work on?
Any platform that lets you paste HTML: forum footers and sidebars (XenForo, vBulletin, phpBB, Discourse themes), WordPress, Squarespace and Wix embed blocks, dealer website platforms, and plain HTML sites. It is a single script tag plus one div — no iframe required.
Does the widget slow my site down?
No. The script is under 3 KB, loads asynchronously, and makes no network calls until a visitor clicks Decode — at which point the result opens on carwhere.com in a new tab. Your page's load time is unaffected.
Can I make it brand-specific for my community?
Yes. Choose a brand in the snippet builder — a Harley-Davidson forum, for example, gets a widget whose attribution links to the Harley VIN decoder with its model-year charts and pre-1981 serial-number guidance. Sixteen brands have dedicated decoder pages.
What data does a decode return?
The decode reads the federal NHTSA vPIC record for the VIN: year, make, model, trim, engine, transmission, drivetrain, body style, assembly plant, and country of origin, plus open-recall visibility. It does not reveal accident, title, or ownership history.
