How is the listing history useful?
It shows how badly the seller needs to move the car: how long it has sat, how many times the price was cut, whether it was bought at a wholesale auction and marked up, and whether it has bounced between dealers. That is negotiation leverage you can bring to the table.
Do I need the seller’s permission to check a VIN?
No. The VIN is visible through the windshield of every car and printed on every online listing. Checking it is free, legal, and the single fastest way to screen a used car before you drive out to see it.
What if the car was never listed online?
