Speed Yellow paint codes

The code is printed on the car's option sticker and on a VIN build sheet. Porsche has reused some names with new codes as paint formulas changed, so the code is the reliable identifier.

About Speed Yellow

  • Porsche says Speed Yellow was created especially for the 964-generation 911 Turbo S, of which only 86 were built, and that it lives on as the colour of PCCB ceramic brake callipers. [6]
  • It was one of only seven colours offered on the 993 GT2 in its first model year, 1996. [2]
  • Speed Yellow appears in the launch colour ranges of both the 993 and 997 911 Targa. [5]

Frequently asked questions

What is the paint code for Porsche Speed Yellow?

Speed Yellow has carried Porsche paint codes 12G (1990s code); 12H (996/997-era code); X4 (short code). Porsche reuses names across eras with different codes, so match the code on the car's option sticker or build sheet rather than the name alone.

Which Porsche models and years came in Speed Yellow?

Our sources list Speed Yellow on the 911 Turbo S (964) (1992, limited edition only), 911 (993) (1995–1998, standard color), 911 (996, 997) (1999–2012, standard color), Boxster (986, 987) (1997–2010, standard color), Cayman (987) (2007–2012, standard color) and Carrera GT (2005, standard color). If you see it on a model or year not listed, it may be a Paint to Sample order or a respray — the build sheet for the VIN shows which.

Is Speed Yellow a Paint to Sample color?

Our sources list Speed Yellow as a limited edition only and standard color rather than Paint to Sample. Porsche's Paint to Sample program can still apply many past colors to new cars, so a recent car in Speed Yellow may be a PTS order.

Speed Yellow vs Racing Yellow: what's the difference?

Speed Yellow (12G/12H) is the brighter, slightly greener yellow of the 993 to 997 era, and it is still the yellow used on PCCB brake callipers. Racing Yellow (1S1) replaced it as the catalogued yellow from about 2012, starting with the 991 and 981. It is a deeper, warmer yellow that leans slightly toward orange.

How can I tell if a Porsche is factory Speed Yellow?

Read the paint code on the option sticker (in the maintenance booklet and, on most models, in the front luggage compartment) or on a build sheet for the VIN, and compare it with 12G, 12H and X4. A matching color name alone does not rule out a respray or wrap.
