What to check on a used Veracruz
Every Veracruz has the same V6 and transmission, so the checks focus on the drivetrain, trim and recall history:
- Oil on the alternator: 14V415 and its follow-up 20V705 cover a leaking front valve-cover gasket that can drip oil on the alternator and kill the charging system. Confirm both are done, and look for fresh oil near the front cylinder bank.
- Driver airbag: 11V472 replaces the clock spring on 2007–2008 models built December 26, 2006 to March 21, 2008.
- AWD or FWD: AWD versions have a lock mode that splits torque 50:50. EPA rates the AWD one mpg lower combined (18 vs 19 for 2012).
- Trim: Limited adds leather, heated seats and, for 2012, heated second-row seats and an available Alpine navigation system.

Hyundai Veracruz recalls
The NHTSA recall dataset lists these Hyundai campaigns naming the Veracruz. For 23V651, Hyundai told owners to park outside until the fix is done.
- 08E016 / 08E055 (Hyundai trailer-hitch wiring harnesses for 2007–2008 Santa Fe and Veracruz; 3,387 harnesses): an equipment recall on the hitch wiring; 08E055 superseded 08E016.
- 09V122 and 13V113 (between them, 2007–2011 Veracruz among other Hyundais): the stop lamp switch may malfunction. Dealers replace the switch.
- 11V472 (2007–2008 Veracruz): the driver-airbag clock spring can wear and stop the airbag deploying. Dealers replace it.
- 14V415 and 20V705 (2007–2012 Veracruz built through July 24, 2012): oil can leak from the front valve-cover gasket onto the alternator. Dealers inspect and repair the gasket and alternator; 20V705 re-recalled cars from 14V415.
- 23V651 (2010–2012 Veracruz, among 1,649,478 Hyundais): the ABS module may leak brake fluid internally and short, causing an engine-compartment fire. Dealers replace the ABS fuse.
