MINI Cooper problems

The MINI Cooper recalls most worth checking are 12V-008 and 18V-248, for the 2007–2012 Cooper S turbo's auxiliary coolant pump, which can overheat. Next are 23V-337, a footwell module that can corrode in road-salt states (2007–2013), and 24V-612 for the 2020–2024 Cooper SE's battery. First-generation cars have power steering and air bag sensor recalls.

MINI Countryman problems

The largest Countryman-only recall is 18V-557, which adds a missing fuel pump crash plate to 2017–2019 models (about 9,953 vehicles). 2020–2021 plug-in hybrids had two battery campaigns, 20V-601 and 20V-490. 2011–2012 Cooper S Countrymans share the turbo coolant pump recalls. Current 2025–2026 models have small brake and seat belt campaigns.

MINI John Cooper Works problems

MINI John Cooper Works recalls specific to JCW models include 08V-507, for 2009 JCW and JCW Clubman cars built with 16-inch instead of 17-inch front brake discs. The 2009–2012 1.6L turbo JCWs share the auxiliary coolant pump recalls 12V-008 and 18V-248. Later JCW Hardtop, Clubman and Countryman models are in several smaller multi-model campaigns.

MINI Clubman problems

For a 2008–2014 MINI Clubman, the key recall is 23V-337, for a driver's footwell module that can short-circuit after water and salt corrosion, covering about 97,933 vehicles across Clubman and Hardtop models. Turbo Clubman S and JCW Clubman models also share the auxiliary coolant pump recalls. 2016–2017 Clubmans have air bag, seat belt and brake light campaigns.

How do I check a MINI for open recalls?

Enter the 17-character VIN on NHTSA’s recall lookup or the MINI owner site, or ask a MINI dealer to run it. Recall repairs are free. CarWhere’s known-issues pages list major recall campaign numbers by model and generation.

Are known issues the same as years to avoid?

No. Known-issues pages explain specific, documented mechanical problems and recalls. Years-to-avoid research ranks model years against each other, so the two answer different questions and are linked from each model page where both exist.
