3.0 Hurricane: years, specs & known problems
By CarWhere Research · Updated
The Hurricane is Stellantis's 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six. The Standard Output version makes 420 hp and 468–469 lb-ft; the High Output makes 510 hp and 500 lb-ft in the Grand Wagoneer, 540 hp and 521 lb-ft in the Ram 1500, and 550 hp and 531 lb-ft in the 2026 Charger Sixpack Scat Pack.
Stellantis unveiled the Hurricane in March 2022 as its main North American combustion engine for large and body-on-frame vehicles. It is a 3.0-liter inline-six with an aluminum deep-skirt block, plasma-sprayed cylinder bores, 350-bar direct injection and two turbochargers, each feeding three cylinders. The Standard Output version runs up to 22 psi of boost and 10.4:1 compression; the High Output runs up to 26 psi and 9.5:1. It is built at Saltillo, Mexico, and shares bore, stroke and cylinder spacing with the company's turbocharged 2.0-liter four.
The Hurricane replaced the 5.7 and 6.4 HEMIs in the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer for 2023–2024, took over the 2025 Ram 1500 when the V8 was dropped, and powers the gasoline 2026 Dodge Charger Sixpack. Because it is new, long-term reliability data is limited; our November 2026 check of NHTSA recall records for the Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer and 2025–2026 Ram 1500 found no campaign specific to the engine.
