Jeep tools & data

By CarWhere Research · Updated

CarWhere’s Jeep hub collects free research for Wrangler, Grand Cherokee, Gladiator and Wagoneer shoppers and owners: 59 trim levels with dated base MSRPs, 38 known issues and recalls including death wobble, guides to the Pentastar, 2.0 turbo, 4xe and Hemi engines, plus VIN tools. Every page lists sources.

A Jeep’s capability lives in its configuration: axles, transfer case, lockers, tops and powertrain all vary within one model line. These pages lay out what each trim and engine offered, and the documented problems and recalls to check for on a used Jeep.

Jeep research by model

Know exactly how your Jeep was built at the factory.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find out what options my Jeep has?

The original window sticker lists the trim, engine, packages and options a Jeep was built with. If it is lost, a build sheet reconstructed from the VIN shows factory colors, options and packages where detailed build data exists, and the free VIN decoder shows basics such as engine, body and plant.

What is Jeep death wobble?

It is a violent side-to-side oscillation of the front wheels and steering on solid-front-axle vehicles such as the Wrangler and Gladiator, usually set off by a bump at speed. Worn or loose steering and suspension parts are the usual cause; the Wrangler known-issues page covers checks, FCA’s 2019 V41 steering-damper campaign and the related track bar weld recall.

What engines does the Jeep Wrangler have?

The current JL Wrangler has offered the 3.6L Pentastar V6, the 2.0L turbo four, the 4xe plug-in hybrid built around that turbo four, the 3.0L EcoDiesel (2020–2023) and the 6.4L 392 Hemi V8 in the Rubicon 392. The engine guides list output and known problems for each.

How do I check a Jeep for recalls?

Enter the 17-character VIN on NHTSA’s recall lookup or Jeep’s owner site, or ask a dealer to run it. Recall repairs are free. CarWhere’s known-issues pages list major recall campaign numbers by model and generation.
