The risk: IN THE EVENT OF CRASH, THE FRONT AND/OR SIDE IMPACT AIR BAGS MAY DEPLOY IMPROPERLY OR NOT AT ALL, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY. ALSO, THE LAP BELT PRETENSIONER MAY NOT DEPLOY.

The fix: VOLVO WILL NOTIFY OWNERS, AND DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND, IF NECESSARY, SECURE THE SEAT WIRE HARNESS. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 12, 2012. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VOLVO CARS AT 1-800-458-1552.

The problem: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES, THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR LOCATED ON THE LEFT END OF THE FUEL RAIL MAY, AT TIMES, TRANSMIT INCORRECT SIGNAL REGARDING THE FUEL PRESSURE TO THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE. IF THE SIGNAL IS OUTSIDE OF THE PRE-PROGRAMMED ALLOWABLE LIMITS, A DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE MAY BE SET AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON. THE SOLDERED JOINTS ON THE CIRCUIT BOARD OF THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR MAY CRACK DUE TO TEMPERATURE CHANGES AND EXCESSIVE VIBRATIONS.

The risk: MISFIRE MAY OCCUR DURING DRIVING THAT, IN TURN, WILL REDUCE THE ENGINE TORQUE AND IN THE WORST CASE SCENARIO, THE ENGINE MAY STALL WITHOUT WARNING. IN CERTAIN TRAFFIC SITUATIONS THIS COULD CAUSE AN UNSAFE SITUATION AND POSSIBLY A CRASH.

The fix: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JUNE 29, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VOLVO AT 1-800-458-1552.

How to check if your S60 has an open recall

  1. Find the 17-character VIN on the driver-side dashboard (visible through the windshield), the door-jamb sticker, or your registration.
  2. Enter it in the free VIN recall check. It queries NHTSA for your exact vehicle, not just the model.
  3. If a recall is open, call any Volvo dealer's service department to book the free repair. Bring the recall number from the list above.
  4. Buying used? Ask the seller for the dealer's recall-completion printout before you pay.

Or browse by year, for example the 2025 Volvo S60 recall check.

Recalls are only part of the picture. Owner complaints show which years have the most problems: Volvo S60 years to avoid.

Frequently asked questions

How many recalls does the Volvo S60 have?

41 NHTSA safety recall campaigns cover the Volvo S60 across model years 2001–2025. A single campaign often spans several model years, so the per-year counts in the table add up to more than 41. The 2002 model year has the most, with 9.

What is the latest Volvo S60 recall?

25V908000, filed with NHTSA on Dec 23, 2025: backup camera / back-over prevention (software), covering 2023–2025 S60 models. The fix is free at Volvo dealers.

What is the biggest Volvo S60 recall?

By vehicles covered, 25V908000 (Dec 23, 2025), a backup camera / back-over prevention campaign covering about 413,151 vehicles in total. That count is for the whole campaign, which can include other models besides the S60.

How do I check if my Volvo S60 has an open recall?

Run your 17-character VIN through a VIN recall check. A model-level list can't tell you whether your car was built in the affected range or has already been repaired. Any Volvo dealer can also look up the VIN and do the repair.

Are Volvo recall repairs free?

Yes. Safety-recall repairs are done free at franchised Volvo dealers, whether or not the warranty has expired and wherever you bought the car. Manufacturers must offer a free remedy for vehicles up to 15 years old at the time the recall is filed, and many still repair older ones.

Sources and method

  • NHTSA recalls database: every campaign for the VOLVO S60, queried by model year through NHTSA's public recalls API (api.nhtsa.gov).
  • Affected-vehicle counts are NHTSA's "potential units affected" for the whole campaign, which can include other models.
  • Campaigns filed under a separate NHTSA model name (for example a hybrid or heavy-duty variant) are not included here.
  • Data pulled Nov 7, 2026. Problem, risk and fix text is NHTSA's own campaign wording.
