Why there is no 2021 BRZ
2.0L vs 2.4L
The first BRZ used a 2.0L FA-series boxer rated 200 hp at 7,000 rpm and 151 lb-ft at 6,400 rpm. The 2022 car moved to a 2.4L making 228 hp at 7,000 rpm and 184 lb-ft, an increase of 28 hp and 33 lb-ft.
Both generations are rear-wheel drive. EPA rates the 2027 manual at 22 mpg combined and the automatic at 25.[5][6][2][3][4]

Subaru BRZ problems and recalls
The most significant documented BRZ problem is the valve spring recall for the 2013 model, whose 2.0L boxer springs could fracture and stall the engine. Other recalls cover low-pressure fuel pumps on 2018–2019 cars, a 2018 camera software fault and intermittent rear turn signals on the 2022 model.
