ID.4 EPA range by model year
EPA's range figures show how much the ID.4 changed with the 2024 motor update. The rear-drive Pro went from 260 miles in 2021 to 291 miles from 2024. VW also sold a lower-priced 62-kWh RWD version from late 2022; EPA lists a shorter-range base ID.4 at 209 miles for 2023 and 206 for 2024.
ID.4 charging: DC, home and Tesla Superchargers
VW says the 2026 ID.4 charges from 10% to 80% in about 28 minutes on a DC fast charger in optimal conditions. Its maximum AC rate is 11 kW, and a full charge from empty takes up to about 8 hours on an 11-kW home wall charger, which matches the 8 hours EPA lists for 240-volt charging.
The included 2-in-1 cable works on a 120-volt outlet (about 1.2 kW, roughly 3 miles of range per hour) or a 240-volt outlet (about 9.6 kW, up to 27 miles per hour). The ID.4 can use Tesla Superchargers with a VW-approved NACS adapter, and VW includes a 2-year charging plan.[2][4][3]
RWD vs AWD ID.4
Where the ID.4 is built
VW began US assembly of the ID.4 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in July 2022, initially in RWD and AWD versions with an 82-kWh battery. VW said 190,000 ID.4s had been delivered worldwide by then.[6]

Volkswagen ID.4 problems and recalls
The most serious documented Volkswagen ID.4 problems involve the high-voltage battery: 2023–2026 models are covered by several fire-risk recalls, one with its remedy still in development as of late 2026 (26V630). Door handles that can let water in and open a door (2021–2024), 12-volt charging faults and display software resets have also been recalled.
