Tiguan history in numbers

The name blends "Tiger" with "Leguan", German for iguana, and won a magazine readers' poll. VW says more than nine million Tiguans were sold worldwide from the 2007 launch to the end of May 2026, and it has been the Volkswagen Group's best-selling model since 2017.

The long-wheelbase Tiguan sold in the US is built at VW de México in Puebla, which VW lists as producing the Tiguan Long Version.[7][19]
