Audi 3.0 TFSI: years, specs & known problems

By CarWhere Research · Updated

Audi's turbocharged 3.0 TFSI is a 2,995 cc V6 with a twin-scroll turbo inside the vee, used in US models since the 2018 S4 and S5. It makes 335 hp and 369 lb-ft in 55 TFSI models with 48-volt mild hybrid, 349–354 hp in the S4, S5 and SQ5, and 362 hp and 406 lb-ft from 2025.

The turbocharged 3.0 TFSI keeps the 84.5 × 89 mm bore and stroke of the supercharged engine it replaced but moves to a single twin-scroll turbocharger mounted inside the vee and an 11.2:1 compression ratio. It launched at 354 hp and 369 lb-ft in the 2018 S5 and S4, was rated at 349 hp from 2019, and powered the 2018–2024 SQ5. In the A6, A7, A8, Q7 and Q8 '55 TFSI' models it makes 335 hp and 369 lb-ft and comes with a 48-volt mild hybrid system.

For 2025 the new S5, SQ5 and 2026 A6 adopted a reworked version with a 12.0:1 compression ratio, 362 hp and 406 lb-ft, paired with a seven-speed S tronic. Engine-related recalls on file cover an engine control module on 2019–2021 A8 models; check any used example for open campaigns by VIN.
