Audi 3.0 TFSI Supercharged: years, specs & known problems
By CarWhere Research · Updated
Audi's supercharged 3.0 TFSI is a 2,995 cc V6 with an Eaton roots-type supercharger in the vee, sold in US models from about 2010 to 2019. It made 272 hp in the Q5, 310–333 hp in the A6, A7, A8, S4, S5 and Q7, and 354 hp in the SQ5 before the turbocharged 3.0 replaced it.
The supercharged 3.0 TFSI uses an 84.5 × 89 mm bore and stroke, chain-driven double overhead cams and an Eaton R1320 roots-type supercharger with two intercoolers mounted inside the vee. Audi tuned it from 272 hp and 295 lb-ft in the Q5 to 333 hp and 325 lb-ft in the S4, S5, A8 and Q7, and 354 hp and 346 lb-ft in the SQ5. It replaced the 3.2 FSI V6 in the Q5 for 2013 and the 4.2 FSI V8 in the S4 and S5 lines.
The turbocharged 3.0 TFSI took over from the 2018 S4 and S5 and the 2019 A6, A7, A8 and Q8, and the 2019 Q7 was the last US model with the supercharged engine, rated at 329 hp. The engine-related recalls on file are fuel leaks from the injection system, fuel rails and engine-bay fuel lines on specific model years.

Frequently asked questions
Which Audis have the supercharged 3.0T?
The 2010–2016 S4, 2010–2017 S5 cabriolet and 2013–2017 S5 coupe, 2012–2018 A6 and A7, 2013–2018 A8, 2013–2017 Q5, 2014–2017 SQ5, and the Q7 (2011–2015 and 2017–2019).
How much horsepower does the Audi 3.0 supercharged V6 make?
Between 272 hp (Q5) and 354 hp (SQ5). Most S4, S5, A8 and Q7 applications were rated at 333 hp and 325 lb-ft; the A6 and A7 were rated at 310 hp through 2015.
When did Audi stop using the supercharged 3.0T?
The S4 and S5 switched to the turbocharged 3.0 TFSI for 2018 and the A6, A7, A8 and Q8 used the turbo engine from 2019. The 2019 Q7, rated at 329 hp, was the last US model with the supercharger.
Is the Audi 3.0T supercharger belt-driven?
Yes. The roots-type Eaton blower sits in the vee and is driven through a decoupling clutch pulley, so it can be disengaged when boost is not needed.
What recalls affect the supercharged 3.0T?
The engine-related NHTSA campaigns are fuel leaks: injection-system leaks on 2011–2012 S4, S5 and Q7, 2012 A6 and 2012–2013 A7 (15V-019), and later fuel line and fuel rail campaigns on specific A6, A7, A8 and Q7 years.
