Porsche 718 Build Sheet by VIN

A Porsche 718 build sheet shows how a specific Boxster or Cayman VIN was built: trim, paint, interior and installed options such as the manual or PDK gearbox, Sport Chrono, PASM, ceramic brakes and sports exhaust. Mid-engine Porsches are heavily individualized, so the build sheet is the reliable way to confirm a used car's spec.

What a Porsche 718 Boxster & Cayman build sheet shows

On a Boxster or Cayman, the options that move buyer interest — a manual gearbox, Sport Chrono, PASM, a limited-slip differential, sports exhaust and seats — are easy to misstate in a listing. A VIN build sheet shows the factory trim, colors and installed options recorded for that VIN.

  • • The factory trim, exterior color, and interior trim recorded for that VIN.
  • • Installed factory options and packages, when the underlying build data includes them.
  • • Original MSRP figures, when the underlying build data includes them — not every VIN or model year has this available.
  • • A downloadable, printable PDF you can keep with the car’s records or share with a seller or lender.

Data density varies by model year and specific VIN — some return a full option and MSRP breakdown, others trim and color only. You see which applies before you pay. Not included: accident history, title brands (salvage, flood, lemon), odometer history, prior-owner count, service records.

Codes shown are from the Porsche option code reference, listed only where that reference documents the code on this model line (generation in brackets). Where to find the VIN on a Porsche 718 Boxster & Cayman

  • • Through the lower driver-side corner of the windshield (US-market cars).
  • • On the certification label in the driver-side door jamb.
  • • On the title, registration and insurance card.
  • • On a Boxster or Cayman the factory option sticker is typically in the front luggage compartment.
  • • A printed vehicle data label — VIN plus the factory option codes — is also in the Warranty & Maintenance booklet that ships with the car. It is the quickest place to check codes if the booklet is still with the car.

Build sheet vs. Porsche's official documents

Porsche's own US documentation is the Porsche Production Specification (the renamed Certificate of Authenticity, $150, mailed in about 6–8 weeks), and for model year 2019 and newer, eligible owners can download the window sticker in My Porsche. A CarWhere build sheet is the instant option when you are not the owner or can't wait: This CarWhere build sheet is reconstructed from available VIN-level build data. It is not an official Porsche Monroney label or factory certificate. See Porsche Certificate of Authenticity vs build sheet for the full comparison.

FAQ

How do I get a build sheet for my Porsche Boxster or Cayman?

Enter the 17-character VIN here. CarWhere checks free whether detailed build data exists for that exact car; if it does, the build sheet is $9.99 one-time and shows the factory trim, colors and installed options recorded for the VIN.

How can I tell if a 718 Cayman has Sport Chrono from the VIN?

The VIN itself does not encode options. The build record for that VIN does — on 987, 981 and 982 cars the Sport Chrono package appears as M025 or M026 on the option sticker, and a VIN build sheet lists it when the data includes it.

Does the build sheet show whether a Boxster is a manual?

Yes, when the build data includes the transmission option: M480 is the 6-speed manual, M250 PDK and M249 Tiptronic on the generations where those codes apply.

Is a 718 build sheet the same as the window sticker?

No. The window sticker (Monroney) is the original label from the new-car sale. A CarWhere build sheet is reconstructed from licensed VIN-level build data — not an official Porsche document — for when the original sticker is not available.

Do Boxster and Cayman VINs decode the same way?

Yes — both start WP0, and the 2022 examples decoded on this page both carry 8 in position 8. vPIC tells the body styles apart from the descriptor in positions 4–6 (A for the Cayman coupe, C for the Boxster convertible in those examples).
