Crayon paint code

The code is printed on the car's option sticker and on a VIN build sheet. Porsche has reused some names with new codes as paint formulas changed, so the code is the reliable identifier.

About Crayon

  • Porsche offered Crayon as the single special colour on the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition, alongside Black, Guards Red, GT Silver Metallic and the exclusive Cherry Metallic. [2]
  • When Porsche reorganised the 911 palette for the 2024 update, it placed Crayon in the 'Legends' colour world next to the new Shade Green Metallic and Slate Grey Neo. [5]
  • On the Macan T, Crayon was one of three special colours, with Carmine Red and Miami Blue. [4]

Frequently asked questions

What is the paint code for Porsche Crayon?

Crayon has carried Porsche paint code M9A (Listed as Crayon for model years 2023–). Porsche reuses names across eras with different codes, so match the code on the car's option sticker or build sheet rather than the name alone.

Which Porsche models and years came in Crayon?

Our sources list Crayon on the 911 Targa 4S Heritage Design Edition (992) (2021, limited edition only), Macan T (2023–2024, special (extra-cost) color), 911 (992) (2022–, special (extra-cost) color), Cayenne (E3) (2023–, special (extra-cost) color), 718 Boxster / Cayman (2023–, special (extra-cost) color) and Panamera (2023–, special (extra-cost) color), among others. If you see it on a model or year not listed, it may be a Paint to Sample order or a respray — the build sheet for the VIN shows which.

Is Crayon a Paint to Sample color?

Our sources list Crayon as a limited edition only and special (extra-cost) color rather than Paint to Sample. Porsche's Paint to Sample program can still apply many past colors to new cars, so a recent car in Crayon may be a PTS order.

Crayon vs Arctic Grey: what's the difference?

Both are non-metallic light greys, but Crayon (M9A) is paler and close to off-white, while Arctic Grey (M7K) is a little darker with a cooler, slightly blue cast. Arctic Grey arrived later, as a new special colour on the 2021 Cayenne Turbo GT and the 718 Cayman GT4 RS, and Crayon was already on sale before then.

How common is Crayon?

In US new-car inventory on October 22, 2026, 570 of 5,149 new 2026 Porsche Macan listings (11.1%) were listed in Crayon; it also appeared on Panamera (9.3%), Cayenne (9%) and Cayenne Coupe (8.4%). Shares come from dealer-listed color names, which are not always exact.

How can I tell if a Porsche is factory Crayon?

Read the paint code on the option sticker (in the maintenance booklet and, on most models, in the front luggage compartment) or on a build sheet for the VIN, and compare it with M9A. A matching color name alone does not rule out a respray or wrap.
