Genesis G70 problems and known issues

By CarWhere Research · Updated

The G70's most significant documented problems are fire-risk recalls on early cars: an ABS module that can short circuit (21V161, 2019–2021), a starter solenoid that can take on water (24V107, 2019) and a leaking 3.3T turbocharger oil feed pipe (24V191, 2019–2022). Fuel pump recalls also cover the 2.0T (20V569, 2021) and 2019–2023 models (24V528). Every campaign is repaired free.

CarWhere lists 7 documented G70 issues, including 7 NHTSA safety recalls, each with affected years, powertrains, symptoms, pre-purchase checks and a source. Recall entries come from NHTSA's recall dataset on the DOT open-data portal, which may not list every campaign, so run the specific VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup.

3.3L twin-turbo V6

On the 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6, the left turbocharger oil feed pipe may deteriorate and leak oil onto hot engine parts, raising the risk of an engine compartment fire. Dealers replace the pipe, free of charge. This campaign expands and replaces recall 19V538 (a loose turbo oil-supply pipe seal on 2017–2018 G90 and 2018 G80), and cars fixed under 19V538 need the new remedy too. The 28,439-vehicle count is for the whole campaign, which also covers other models.

Symptoms

  • Burning-oil smell from the engine bay
  • Oil residue around the left turbocharger
  • Smoke from under the hood

Check before buying

  • Run the 17-digit VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup (nhtsa.gov/recalls) and confirm the campaign shows as remedied
  • If the car was repaired under 19V538, confirm the 24V191 remedy was also done
  • Ask a Genesis retailer for the repair order showing the recall work was completed

Frequently asked questions

What are common Genesis G70 problems?

The documented G70 problems are safety recalls. The most serious involve fire risk on early cars: the ABS module (21V161, 2019–2021), the starter solenoid (24V107, 2019) and the 3.3T left turbocharger oil feed pipe (24V191, 2019–2022). Fuel pump recalls cover 2021 2.0T models (20V569) and 2019–2023 models (24V528).

Does the G70 3.3T have an oil leak recall?

Yes. Recall 24V191 covers 2019–2022 G70s with the 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6, because the left turbocharger oil feed pipe can deteriorate and leak oil onto hot engine parts. Dealers replace the pipe for free.

Which G70 years have the most recalls?

The 2019 G70 appears in the most campaigns: ABS module (21V161), starter solenoid (24V107), turbo oil feed pipe on 3.3T cars (24V191), fuel pump (24V528) and the trunk emergency release (22V196).

Is there a G70 fuel pump recall?

Yes, two. Recall 20V569 covers some 2021 G70s with the 2.0L turbo, where a plastic burr can block the fuel pump nozzle. Recall 24V528 covers 2019–2023 G70s whose fuel pump may fail; dealers update engine software and replace the pump as needed.

How do I check a used G70 for open recalls?

Enter the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls and ask a Genesis retailer for the repair orders. For the ABS and starter fire recalls, park outside until the work is confirmed.
