Genesis GV80 problems

The GV80's documented problems are safety recalls, and the most common theme is the fuel system: a leaking 2.5T high-pressure fuel tube (21V208), fuel pump failures on 2021–2023 models (23V630, 24V282) and a fuel pipe-to-rail leak on 2021–2025 models (26V229). Other campaigns cover seat belt pretensioners and instrument-panel and rearview-camera software. All are fixed free by Genesis retailers.

Genesis G70 problems

The G70's most significant documented problems are fire-risk recalls on early cars: an ABS module that can short circuit (21V161, 2019–2021), a starter solenoid that can take on water (24V107, 2019) and a leaking 3.3T turbocharger oil feed pipe (24V191, 2019–2022). Fuel pump recalls also cover the 2.0T (20V569, 2021) and 2019–2023 models (24V528). Every campaign is repaired free.

Genesis GV70 problems

The GV70's documented problems are safety recalls. Gas models were recalled for fuel pump failures (2022–2023), a fuel pipe-to-rail leak (2022–2026) and, on 2024 models, a water-damaged transmission harness that can shift the SUV out of Park (24V205). The Electrified GV70 shares the charging-unit (ICCU) recall 24V868. All repairs are free.

Genesis G80 problems

The G80's most serious documented problems are fire-risk recalls on 2015–2020 cars, including the 2015–2016 Hyundai Genesis sedan it grew from: the ABS module (21V160), the starter solenoid (24V107) and, filed in October 2026, front power seat motors (26V664). The 2021-and-later G80 has fuel pump and fuel pipe recalls, and the Electrified G80 shares the ICCU charging recall.

Genesis G90 problems

On the first-generation G90, the key documented problems are fire-risk recalls: the 3.3T turbocharger oil feed pipe (24V191, 2017–2022) and water in the starter solenoid (24V107). The 2023-and-later G90 has recalls for seat belt pretensioners and anchors, Highway Drive Assist radar that can brake suddenly, a fuel pipe leak and instrument-panel software. All repairs are free.

Genesis GV60 problems

The GV60's most important documented problem is the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) recall 24V868, shared with Hyundai's IONIQ models, in which a damaged unit can stop charging the 12-volt battery and cut drive power. Early 2023 models also had two rear driveshaft recalls (23V300, 24V065). All repairs are free, and some software fixes arrive over the air.

Confirm how a used Genesis was built before you buy.

Engine, transmission and packages decide which issues apply. The CarWhere Genesis build sheet reconstructs factory colors, options and packages from licensed VIN-level build data — availability is checked free, and it is $9.99 only when detailed build data is found for that VIN.

Frequently asked questions

What are the most common Genesis problems?

They depend on the model and powertrain. Across the 6 Genesis models covered here, the most documented items are 2.5T high-pressure fuel tube may leak (recall 21V208) on the GV80; ABS module may short circuit and cause a fire (recall 21V161) on the G70; seat belt pretensioners may explode in a crash (recall 23V094) on the GV70. Each model page lists issues by generation with sources.

How do I check a Genesis for open recalls?

Enter the 17-character VIN on NHTSA’s recall lookup or the brand’s owner site, or ask a Genesis dealer to run it. Recall repairs are free. CarWhere’s known-issues pages list major recall campaign numbers by model and generation.

Are known issues the same as years to avoid?

No. Known-issues pages explain specific, documented mechanical problems and recalls. Years-to-avoid research ranks model years against each other, so the two answer different questions and are linked from each model page where both exist.
