Honda Accord problems and known issues

By CarWhere Research · Updated

The Accord years with the highest-stakes recalls are 2001–2007, because of Takata air bag inflators. Honda asked 2001–2002 owners with unrepaired Alpha inflators to stop driving. Later Accords carry repairable campaigns: 2013–2016 battery sensors (17V418), 2018–2020 body-control software and fuel pumps, and a 2023–2025 Accord Hybrid power-loss software fix (25V785).

CarWhere lists 23 documented Accord issues, including 21 NHTSA safety recalls, each with affected years, powertrains, symptoms, pre-purchase checks and a source. Recall entries come from NHTSA's recall dataset on the DOT open-data portal, which may not list every campaign, so run the specific VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup.

By recall severity, avoid any 2001–2007 Accord whose Takata air bag recalls are still open; Honda told 2001–2002 owners with unrepaired Alpha inflators to stop driving. Also confirm the transmission software (11V395) on 2005–2010 cars and the battery sensor (17V418) on 2013–2016 cars.

Which Accords have Takata air bag recalls?

Driver inflators on 2001–2007 Accords (15V320), passenger inflators on 2003–2007 (15V370) and 2008–2012 Accords (16V346, 17V030, 18V042), plus follow-up recalls for remedy-part inflators (19V182, 19V501).

Is there a fuel pump recall on the Honda Accord?

Yes. Recalls 20V314 and 21V215 covered 2018–2020 Accords, and expansion 23V858 lists 2013–2023 Accords and 2015–2020 Accord Hybrids. 2015–2017 Accord V6 models also had fuel pump recall 19V060. Dealers fix them for free.

Does the Accord Hybrid have any recalls?

Yes. Recent ones include 25V785 (2023–2025 control module reset, loss of drive power), 24V763 (2023–2024 high-pressure fuel pump), and tire repair kit recalls 26V366 and 26V663. Older Accord Hybrids had 15V602 (2014–2015 fail-safe mode).

Why were 2013–2015 Accords recalled for driveshafts?

On four-cylinder CVT cars from salt-belt states, assembly lubricant could weaken the driveshaft coating so salt corrodes the shaft. Recall 20V769 covered 2013–2015 cars and 25V422 added more 2013 models. Dealers inspect and replace the shafts.

How do I check a used Accord for open recalls?

Enter the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls or recalls.honda.com and ask a Honda dealer to print the completed campaigns. Recall repairs are free no matter the age or mileage.
