Mazda e-Skyactiv G 3.3 inline-six turbo: years, specs & known problems

By CarWhere Research · Updated

Mazda's inline-six is the e-Skyactiv G 3.3-liter turbo with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system Mazda calls M Hybrid Boost. It powers the CX-90 from 2024 and the CX-70 from 2025. Turbo models make 280 hp and 332 lb-ft on regular fuel; Turbo S models make 340 hp and 369 lb-ft on premium, Mazda's most powerful production gas engine.

Mazda introduced the 3.3-liter inline-six with the 2024 CX-90, the first model on its new large platform with a front-engine, rear-wheel-biased longitudinal layout and standard i-Activ AWD. The engine pairs with M Hybrid Boost, a 48-volt mild-hybrid system whose electric motor sits between the engine and transmission and can drive the CX-90 directly at low speed. Every CX-90 powertrain uses a new eight-speed automatic with no torque converter.

The engine comes in two tunes. The 3.3 Turbo is rated 280 hp and 332 lb-ft on regular fuel. The 3.3 Turbo S is rated 340 hp and 369 lb-ft on recommended premium; the 2027 CX-90 release adds 319 hp on regular 87 octane. The CX-70, a two-row model on the same platform, has offered both tunes since 2025.

The CX-90 and CX-70 PHEV models don't use the six. Their e-Skyactiv PHEV system pairs a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder with an electric motor and a 17.8 kWh battery, for a combined 323 hp and 369 lb-ft on premium fuel.
