Mazda CX-9 problems and known issues

By CarWhere Research · Updated

The most serious documented Mazda CX-9 problem is the Takata passenger air bag inflator on 2007–2015 models; Mazda told owners of unrepaired vehicles not to drive them. First-generation CX-9s also have a front ball joint corrosion recall. The 2016–2023 second generation has fuel pump, wiring harness and second-row seat recalls. Mazda ended the CX-9 after 2023.

CarWhere lists 6 documented CX-9 issues, including 6 NHTSA safety recalls, each with affected years, powertrains, symptoms, pre-purchase checks and a source. Recall entries come from NHTSA's recall dataset on the DOT open-data portal, which may not list every campaign, so run the specific VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup.
