Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG: history, versions and production numbers
By CarWhere Research · Updated
The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG (2010–2014) was the first car developed entirely by Mercedes-AMG and a modern successor to the 300 SL Gullwing. Its naturally aspirated 6.3-liter V8 made 571 hp. Mercedes-Benz Classic records 8,114 coupes and 537 GT coupes, 2,292 roadsters and a handful of Electric Drive cars.
SLS AMG history
Mercedes-AMG became a wholly owned subsidiary in 2005, and the SLS AMG of 2009–2010 was the first vehicle it developed entirely in-house. Its gullwing doors and long bonnet recalled the 300 SL.
The front-mid-mounted, high-revving 6.3-liter V8 produced 571 hp (420 kW), driving a rear transaxle via a carbon-fiber driveshaft. Mercedes quoted 0–100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and an electronically governed 317 km/h.
The SLS AMG GT3 began AMG's customer-racing program in 2011. Road-car variants followed: the roadster, the 591 hp GT, the battery-electric Coupé Electric Drive and, finally, the 622 hp Black Series.[1],[2],[5]

- Ask about carbon-ceramic brake wear if fitted; replacements are costly.
- Look for evidence of track use on Black Series cars.
