Taycan J1 problems (2020–2024)

High-voltage battery short-circuit recall (2020–2024)

Safety recall
Generation:
J1
Years:
2020–2024
Engine:
Electric (all battery sizes)

A short circuit can develop inside a high-voltage battery module and raise fire risk. Porsche first filed smaller recalls in 2023 and early 2024, then merged them into one campaign covering about 27,500 U.S. cars. Until the fix is done, owners are told to charge to 80% at most. Dealers test the battery and replace modules as needed, and a diagnostic software update is the final remedy.

Symptoms

  • Battery warning messages
  • Porsche notice limiting charge to 80%

Check before buying

  • Confirm recalls 24V-732 and 24V-731 (and the earlier 23V-840, 24V-215, 24V-217 they replace) are closed
  • Ask for records of any module replacement

2023 battery sealant recall (2023)

Safety recall
Generation:
J1
Years:
2023
Engine:
Electric

Some 2023 Taycans were built with too little sealant in the high-voltage battery. Liquid could collect inside and cause arcing, raising fire risk. Dealers leak-test the battery and replace it if needed.

Loss of drive power software recall (2020–2021)

Safety recall
Generation:
J1
Years:
2020–2021
Engine:
Electric

Monitoring software in early Taycans could wrongly detect a fault and shut down the drivetrain while driving. Porsche updated the power electronics and engine control software at dealers. The global campaign covered about 43,000 cars.

Symptoms

  • Sudden loss of drive power with a warning message

Front brake hose crack recall (2020–2025)

Safety recall
Generation:
J1 and facelift
Years:
2020–2025
Engine:
Electric

The front brake hoses on many Taycans can crack and leak fluid. That can lengthen stopping distances. The campaign covers more than 31,000 U.S. cars across 2020–2025.

Symptoms

  • Brake fluid warning
  • Soft or long brake pedal

Center screen and rearview camera blackout recall (2020–2022)

Safety recall
Generation:
J1
Years:
2020–2022
Engine:
Electric

A software error could leave the center screen and touch panel black after startup. That takes the rearview camera image with it. Dealers update the software.

Symptoms

  • Blank center screen at startup
  • No backup camera image

Check before buying

Front seat wiring harness recall (2020–2021)

Safety recall
Generation:
J1
Years:
2020–2021
Engine:
Electric

The front seat wiring harness could be damaged when the seat slides fore and aft. A damaged harness may switch off the seat airbags. Dealers inspect it, tape it in place, and repair any damaged wires.

Symptoms

  • Seat or airbag warning lights

Check before buying
