Porsche uses internal project codes for each generation. The 911 runs 964, 993, 996, 997, 991 and 992, with ".1" and ".2" marking the original and facelifted versions. Boxster and Cayman use 986, 987, 981 and 982; the Cayenne uses 9PA, 958 and 9YA; the Panamera uses 970, 971 and 976.
How do I find out how a specific Porsche was optioned?
Specs describe a trim; a car's actual equipment is recorded against its VIN. A build sheet decoded from the VIN lists the factory option codes, original paint and interior for that individual car.
