In October 2026 Acura said the MDX, ADX and Integra will all receive "meaningful enhancements" for the 2027 model year, and that MDX sales were up more than 25% through the first nine months of 2026. Acura has not published 2027 MDX pricing.

MDX Type S: what the extra money buys

The MDX Type S swaps the 3.5L V6 for a Type S-exclusive 3.0L turbocharged V6 rated 355 hp and 354 lb-ft, 65 hp more than the standard MDX. It was the first Acura SUV to wear the Type S badge.

Hardware unique to the Type S includes the first air suspension used on an Acura, retuned adaptive dampers, Brembo front brakes, 21-inch wheels and rev-matching downshifts. Since the 2025 model year it has come only with the Advance Package, which adds massaging front seats, a head-up display and a 31-speaker Bang & Olufsen system.

  • 355 hp / 354 lb-ft vs 290 hp / 267 lb-ft
  • Adaptive air suspension with auto leveling (ground clearance 6.7–9.4 in vs 7.3 in)
  • EPA 17/21/19 mpg vs 19/25/21 for a V6 SH-AWD MDX
  • Type S with Advance: $75,850 (2026)

How SH-AWD works on the MDX

Super Handling All-Wheel Drive is Acura's torque-vectoring system. It can send up to 70% of engine torque to the rear axle and up to 100% of that to either rear wheel, overdriving the outside rear wheel to help the SUV turn in.

Acura introduced SH-AWD on the 2005 RL. The MDX Type S uses the newest mechanical version, which Acura says reacts 30% faster and carries 40% more torque than the previous generation.[16]

Acura MDX hybrid: the 2017–2020 MDX Sport Hybrid

The MDX Sport Hybrid paired a 3.0L V6 with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and three electric motors, two of them driving the rear wheels in Acura's Sport Hybrid SH-AWD layout shared with the second-generation NSX. Acura rated it at 321 hp and 289 lb-ft.

EPA lists the MDX Sport Hybrid for the 2017–2020 model years at 26/27/27 mpg. The 2018 version started at $52,100 with the Technology Package and $58,150 with the Advance Package, before a $995 destination charge. The current MDX has no hybrid; Acura said in October 2026 that a new V6 hybrid powertrain is in development for its D-segment models.

  • 321 hp, 289 lb-ft total peak output
  • EPA 26/27/27 mpg (2017–2020)
  • Technology Package seats seven; Advance Package seats six with second-row captain's chairs

Acura MDX problems and recalls

The Acura MDX issues with the biggest consequences are recalls: 2001–2002 transmission gear failure, Takata air bag inflators on 2003–2006 models and the 2016–2020 connecting rod bearing recall (23V751). The 2022-on fourth generation adds Type S stalling software and a brake pedal pin fix. Run any MDX VIN for open campaigns before buying.
