Dodge Demon history: the 2018 Demon and 2023 Demon 170
By CarWhere Research · Updated
The Dodge Challenger SRT Demon was a one-year, drag-strip-focused car for 2018: 808 hp on pump gas, 840 hp with high-octane fuel, a 9.65-second quarter mile and 3,300 built for the U.S. and Canada. The 2023 Demon 170 raised that to 1,025 hp on E85 and an 8.91-second quarter mile.
Dodge Challenger SRT Demon history
Dodge revealed the Challenger SRT Demon in 2017 as a street-legal drag car. Its supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi made 808 hp and 717 lb-ft on pump fuel; the "Demon Crate" — a $1 option with a high-octane calibration — unlocked 840 hp and 770 lb-ft. Dodge claimed 0–60 mph in 2.3 seconds, an NHRA-certified 9.65-second quarter mile at 140 mph and a 1.8 g launch.
Production was limited to a single model year: 3,000 cars for the U.S. and 300 for Canada, built at Brampton Assembly in Ontario. The U.S. price was $84,995 including the gas-guzzler tax, before destination.
For the last year of the Hemi Challenger, Dodge built the Demon 170: 1,025 hp and 945 lb-ft on E85 (900 hp on premium gasoline), a claimed 1.66-second 0–60 run and an 8.91-second quarter mile at 151.17 mph, priced from $96,666. The final Challenger off the Brampton line on December 22, 2023, was a Demon 170.[1],[2],[3]

What to check before you buy one
- Confirm the car is a genuine Demon or Demon 170 from the VIN and paperwork; Demon badges and wheels are easy to add to a Hellcat or Scat Pack.
- Ask whether the original Demon Crate (2018) and any delivery items are included, and whether the car has been drag-raced.
- Check the odometer and storage history — many Demons were kept as low-mile collectibles, and mileage strongly affects value.
- The factory build sheet confirms the original option choices, such as passenger and rear seat delete or add-back, paint and trim.
