HR-V vs CR-V (2027)

The HR-V and CR-V are close enough in price that many shoppers compare them. The CR-V is larger and more powerful and is the only one of the two offered as a hybrid.[1][2][9][10][3][11]

HR-V LX vs Sport vs EX-L

All three trims have the same engine, gearbox and EPA ratings, so you are paying for equipment. Every trim comes with a 9-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Honda Sensing. The LX ($26,600) has 17-inch alloys and four speakers.

The Sport ($28,400) adds 18-inch gloss-black wheels, heated front seats and blind spot information with rear cross traffic alert. The EX-L ($30,450) adds leather, an 8-way power driver's seat, a moonroof, parking sensors, low-speed braking control and eight speakers.

What changed: 2023 vs 2026 vs 2027 HR-V

2023: The second-generation HR-V launched in LX, Sport and EX-L trims from $23,650 before a $1,245 destination charge. Only the EX-L had the 9-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone connectivity; the LX had a 7-inch screen.

2026: A refresh brought new styling and made the 9-inch touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto standard, and added a wireless charger. The EX-L moved to 18-inch wheels. Prices started at $26,200 before a $1,395 destination charge.

2027: Prices rose $400 per trim and destination went to $1,450. The engine and EPA ratings did not change.[4][5][1]

Buying a used HR-V

The two generations are easy to tell apart. A 2016–2022 HR-V has the 141-hp 1.8L and the Magic Seat, and early FWD LX and EX models could have a manual. A 2023-and-later HR-V has the 158-hp 2.0L, is larger, and uses Civic-based underpinnings.

For a 2023–2025 HR-V, confirm that steering gearbox recall 24V744 has been done. That campaign covers 1.69 million Honda and Acura vehicles. Check any HR-V's VIN on NHTSA's recall site before buying.[7][4][8]

Honda HR-V problems and recalls

No HR-V year stands out as one to avoid on recall severity. The HR-V has fewer recalls than Honda’s bigger SUVs, and none are Takata air bag recalls. The first generation’s main campaigns are 2018–2020 fuel pumps, a 2019–2022 rearview camera fix and seat weight sensors. The 2023-and-later HR-V’s largest campaign is steering gearbox recall 24V744.
