Hyundai E-GMP Platform: years, specs & known problems

By CarWhere Research · Updated

E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform) is Hyundai Motor Group's dedicated EV platform. Kia lists it on the EV9 spec sheet and Hyundai uses it for the Ioniq 5. These EVs support 800V ultra-fast charging, with 149–601 hp from one or two motors. Their main recall is the integrated charging control unit (ICCU), which can stop charging the 12V battery.

Kia's EV9 specifications list the platform as E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform), and Hyundai credits the e-GMP platform for the Ioniq 5's flat floor and long wheelbase. Secondary sources also place the Ioniq 6, Ioniq 9, Kia EV6 and Genesis GV60 on E-GMP. Current spec sheets list 800V ultra-fast charging (10–80% in about 18–24 minutes on a 350 kW charger, by model), permanent-magnet synchronous motors, single-speed reduction gears, and RWD or dual-motor AWD.

The defining recall is the ICCU. In March 2024 Hyundai (24V204) and Kia (24V200) recalled Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, EV6 and some Genesis EVs because the ICCU may be damaged and stop charging the 12-volt battery, which can cause a loss of drive power. In November 2024 both brands replaced those campaigns with expanded recalls: Hyundai's 24V868 (145,642 vehicles) and Kia's 24V867 (62,872). The remedy is ICCU inspection, replacement of the ICCU and its fuse as needed, and a software update. Vehicles fixed under the March 2024 recalls need the new remedy.

ICCU damage that stops 12V charging (Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6) (2022–2025)

Major repair

Hyundai's recalls say the Integrated Charging Control Unit may become damaged and stop charging the 12-volt battery, which can result in a loss of drive power. The March 2024 recall (24V204, 99,055 vehicles) was expanded and replaced in November 2024 by 24V868 (145,642): 2022–2024 Ioniq 5, 2023–2025 Ioniq 6 and Genesis GV60, Electrified GV70 and Electrified G80. Dealers inspect and replace the ICCU and its fuse as needed and update the ICCU software.[8][9]

Symptoms

  • 12-volt battery warning or low-voltage alerts
  • Loss of drive power while driving

Check before buying

  • Run the VIN for 24V868 (Hyundai 272, Genesis 025G)
  • If the car was repaired under 24V204, confirm the newer 24V868 remedy was also completed

Program: Safety recall 24V868 (replaces 24V204)

High-voltage battery fire risk (small batches) (2023–2026)

Major repair

Hyundai has filed small high-voltage battery recalls on E-GMP models: 25V482 (10 2025 Ioniq 5) and 26V068 (27 2025–2026 Ioniq 5 and 2026 Ioniq 9) for improperly tightened bus bars that can short-circuit, and 26V432 (6 2023–2024 Ioniq 5) for cells with misaligned electrodes. Owners in some campaigns are told to park outside until the battery is repaired or replaced.[10][11][12]

Symptoms

  • High-voltage battery warning

Check before buying

  • Run the VIN for 25V482, 26V068 and 26V432

Frequently asked questions

Which cars are built on E-GMP?

Kia's EV9 spec sheet names E-GMP and Hyundai credits the e-GMP platform for the Ioniq 5. Secondary sources also list the Ioniq 6, Ioniq 9, Kia EV6 and Genesis GV60 as E-GMP vehicles.

What is the ICCU recall?

The integrated charging control unit (ICCU) can be damaged and stop charging the 12-volt battery, which can cause a loss of drive power. The current campaigns are Hyundai's 24V868 (2022–2024 Ioniq 5, 2023–2025 Ioniq 6 and some Genesis EVs) and Kia's 24V867 (2022–2024 EV6). Dealers inspect and replace the ICCU and fuse as needed and update the software.

My car had the ICCU recall done in 2024. Is it finished?

Not necessarily. The November 2024 recalls 24V868 (Hyundai) and 24V867 (Kia) replaced the March 2024 campaigns 24V204 and 24V200, and the filings say vehicles repaired under the earlier recalls need the new remedy. Check the VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.

Do E-GMP cars support 800-volt charging?

Yes. Hyundai's Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6 and Ioniq 9 specs list ultra-fast charging up to 800V/350 kW, and Kia's EV9 specs list an 800V charging architecture. Hyundai quotes 10–80% in about 20 minutes for the 2027 Ioniq 5 and about 24 minutes for the 2026 Ioniq 9 on a 350 kW charger.

How much horsepower do E-GMP motors make?

Single rear motors range from 149 hp (2025 Ioniq 6 Standard Range) to 225 hp (Long Range Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6 and EV6). Dual-motor versions make 320 hp in the Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6 and EV6, 379 hp in the EV9 and 303–422 hp in the Ioniq 9. The Ioniq 5 N makes 601 hp, or 641 hp with N Grin Boost.
