Generation:
WK2 (2014–2015)
Years:
2014–2015

2014–2015 Grand Cherokees built July 2012 to December 2015 used a monostable electronic shifter that springs back to centre, so drivers could think they were in Park when they were not. Recall 16V-240 (also covering Charger and 300) added software that shifts the transmission to Park if the driver’s door opens with the engine running and the brake released. Jeep later switched to a conventional gated shifter.

Quadra-Lift air suspension leaks and compressor wear (2011–2021)

Moderate
Generation:
WK2 (2011–2021), Quadra-Lift equipped
Years:
2011–2021
Powertrain:
All engines

The optional Quadra-Lift system replaces coil springs with front air struts, rear air springs, a compressor, valve block and four height sensors. Rear air springs can be chafed or punctured by trapped stones, especially after off-road use, and a slow leak makes the compressor run longer and wear out. A service bulletin for 2016–2017 models built through January 26, 2017 also addressed air lines rubbing the right wheelhouse splash shield.

Symptoms

  • One corner or the rear sitting low after parking
  • “Air Mass Low” or “Unable to Achieve Desired Ride Height” messages
  • Compressor running often or noisily
  • No response when changing ride height

Check before buying

  • Check ride height is level after the vehicle sits overnight
  • Cycle all ride heights and watch for warnings
  • Inspect rear air springs for cracking and listen for leaks

Frequently asked questions

What years of Grand Cherokee have the shifter recall?

Recall 16V-240 covers 2014–2015 Grand Cherokees built July 2012 to December 2015 with the monostable shifter. Dealers added software that puts the transmission in Park if the driver’s door opens with the engine running and the brake released.

What is the TIPM problem on the Grand Cherokee?

On 2011–2013 models the fuel pump relay inside the Totally Integrated Power Module can fail, causing no-starts or stalling. It was recalled under 14V-530 and 15V-115, then again under 19V-813, which replaces the relay and wiring.

Is Quadra-Lift air suspension reliable?

It works well when maintained, but rear air springs can be damaged by trapped stones, and leaks make the compressor wear faster. On a used WK2, check that it sits level overnight and changes height without warnings.

Which newer Grand Cherokee recalls should I check?

On WL models (2021–present), check the rear coil spring recalls (23V-413, 26V-051, 26V-562) and the 24V-132 ball joint recall. On 4xe models, check the 25V-741 battery fire and 25V-766 engine debris recalls.

Does the EcoDiesel Grand Cherokee have problems?

The 2014–2020 3.0L EcoDiesel has recalls for EGR cooler cracking (20V-699), high-pressure fuel pump failure (22V-406) and a crank tone wheel (23V-411). 2014–2016 models also needed the 2019 emissions settlement reflash.
