What's new for 2027, and why there's no IS 300 or IS 500
Lexus redesigned the IS for 2026 with a new front end, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, a 12.3-inch digital cluster and Lexus Safety System+ 3.0. It also made the IS 350 the only version, offered in two grades: F SPORT Design and F SPORT. The IS 300 (turbo four in RWD form, V6 in AWD form) and the V8 IS 500 F SPORT Performance were both sold through the 2025 model year.
For 2027 the IS 350 carries over and gains a Special Appearance Package based on the F SPORT, with Envious green paint and 19-inch black BBS forged wheels. F SPORT Design models now get a heated steering wheel as standard.
Lexus IS 500 F SPORT Performance (2022–2025)
The IS 500 was the first model in Lexus's F SPORT Performance line. Lexus fitted the IS with a naturally aspirated 5.0L V8 rated at 472 hp and 395 lb-ft, driving the rear wheels through an eight-speed Sport Direct Shift automatic. EPA rated the 2025 IS 500 at 17 city, 25 highway and 20 combined mpg.
For 2025 Lexus closed out the model with the IS 500 Ultimate Edition, limited to 500 units in North America. It added Brembo six-piston front calipers in red, matte-black wheels and a Circuit Red and Black cabin. The 2026 IS lineup did not include a V8.[8][19][20][2]
Lexus IS F (2008–2014)
The IS F arrived for the 2008 model year as the first production Lexus to wear the F badge. It made its international debut in 2007, and Lexus quoted a 0–60 mph time of 4.6 seconds. Its 5.0L V8 makes 416 hp at 6,600 rpm and 371 lb-ft at 5,200 rpm, with a 6,800-rpm redline and an eight-speed Sport Direct Shift transmission.
Through its final 2014 model year, the IS F stayed on the second-generation IS platform. That made it the last IS of that generation sold as a sedan.[11][21][12][9]
Lexus IS 250 and IS 300: which years had which engine
The IS 250 name ran from 2006 through 2015 with a 2.5L V6. In the 2014 third-generation car it made 204 hp and 185 lb-ft. For 2016–2017 Lexus replaced it with the turbocharged IS 200t. The IS 300 badge returned for 2016 on the V6 AWD car and for 2018 on the rear-drive turbo four.
The original IS 300 of 2001–2005 is a different car: a first-generation sedan with a 3.0L inline-six.[5][9][15][10][17]
Lexus IS generations by year
| Generation | US model years | Engines | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Third generation (IS 250/350, IS 200t/300, IS 500) | 2014–present | 2.5L V6 IS 250 (204 hp, 2014–2015); 2.0L turbo four IS 200t/IS 300 RWD (241 hp); 3.5L V6 IS 300 AWD (260 hp); 3.5L V6 IS 350 (306 hp at launch, 311 hp from 2021); 5.0L V8 IS 500 (472 hp, 2022–2025) | Announced as all-new for 2014. A heavy 2021 update was followed by another redesign of the exterior and cabin for 2026, when the lineup was cut to the IS 350 alone.[5][6][7][8][2][9][10] |
| IS F (high-performance sedan) | 2008–2014 | 5.0L V8 (416 hp, 371 lb-ft), 8-speed Sport Direct Shift | The first production model with the F badge. It was built on the second-generation IS platform and stayed on sale for one year after the third-generation IS 250/350 arrived.[11][12][9][13] |

| First generation (IS 300) | 2001–2005 | 3.0L inline-six (naturally aspirated 2JZ) | Launched in 2000 for the 2001 model year as a rear-wheel-drive sport sedan, with an IS 300 SportCross wagon variant. Lexus says the engine was a naturally aspirated version of the MKIV Supra's 2JZ-GTE.[17][12][9][18] |
