Mazda CX-5 engines, horsepower and mpg
Mazda rates the 2.5L on regular 87-octane fuel. EPA figures are the published 2026 ratings; Mazda's 2027 spec deck lists the same 24/30/26 mpg. The 2.5 Turbo (256 hp and 320 lb-ft on 93 octane, 227 hp and 310 lb-ft on 87) was sold through the 2025 second-generation CX-5 and is not offered on the third generation.

Is there a Mazda CX-5 Hybrid?
Not yet. Mazda's 2027 CX-5 pricing release answers the question directly: the CX-5 continues with the Skyactiv-G 2.5L, six-speed automatic and i-Activ AWD, and Mazda says additional powertrain options will be announced in 2027.
Shoppers who want a Mazda compact SUV with a hybrid today can look at the CX-50 Hybrid, which pairs a 2.5L engine with three electric motors for 219 hp and an EPA-rated 38 mpg combined.[1][10][11]
What happened to the CX-5 Turbo?
The second-generation CX-5 offered the Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo from the 2019 model year through 2025, in Carbon Turbo, Turbo Premium and Turbo Signature trims. It made 256 hp and 320 lb-ft on 93-octane fuel or 227 hp and 310 lb-ft on regular, and the EPA rated the 2025 version at 24 mpg combined.
The third-generation CX-5 launched with only the naturally aspirated 2.5L. A used 2019–2025 CX-5 Turbo is the way to get turbo power in a CX-5.[8][6][9][1]
i-Activ AWD, Mi-Drive and G-Vectoring Control Plus
All-wheel drive is standard on every 2027 CX-5. Mazda Intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive) offers Normal, Sport and Off-Road modes, and G-Vectoring Control Plus uses an electronic brake limited-slip function to help traction in difficult conditions.
G-Vectoring Control first appeared in 2016 as a Mazda system that varies engine torque in response to steering input to smooth the car's weight transfer.[1][12]
What changed with the third-generation CX-5
The new CX-5 keeps its familiar silhouette but rides on a 110-inch wheelbase, which Mazda says frees up rear-seat and cargo space. The 40:20:40 rear seat has a center pass-through, and the cabin is quieter than before.
Technology moves to a 12.9-inch touchscreen (15.6-inch on Premium Plus) with Google built-in, a 10.25-inch digital cluster and a broader standard i-Activsense safety suite including Emergency Lane Keeping and rear automatic braking.[4][1][5]

| Generation | US model years | Engines | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Third generation | 2026–present | Skyactiv-G 2.5L four-cylinder (187 hp, 186 lb-ft), 6-speed automatic, standard AWD | Mazda priced the all-new 2026 CX-5 from $29,990 in January 2026. It has a 110-inch wheelbase, more rear-seat and cargo room, a 12.9-inch or 15.6-inch touchscreen and Google built-in; the 2027 model switches the voice assistant to Gemini. Mazda says additional powertrain options will be announced in 2027.[4][1][5][6] |
| Second generation | 2017–2025 | Skyactiv-G 2.5L (187 hp, 186 lb-ft, cylinder deactivation); Skyactiv-G 2.5 Turbo from 2019 (256 hp on 93 octane / 227 hp on 87, 320/310 lb-ft); EPA also lists a 2019 2.2L diesel | The all-new CX-5 premiered at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show and went on sale in March 2017. The turbo arrived on the 2019 Signature trim, and the 2019 Skyactiv-D 2.2L diesel was announced at that year's New York show. For 2025 the lineup ran from the $29,050 2.5 S to the $41,080 Turbo Signature.[7][6][8][9] |
| First generation | 2013–2016 | 2.0L four-cylinder; 2.5L four-cylinder added for 2014 (EPA listings); 6-speed automatic | The CX-5 made its world debut in 2012 and went on sale in the U.S. as a 2013 model. The 2016 model received a substantially revised interior.[6][9] |
