From video game to track car

McLaren developed the Solus GT from a futuristic concept that first appeared in Gran Turismo SPORT. Wind-tunnel and CFD work give it more than 1,200 kg of downforce, and McLaren’s targets are 0–100 km/h in 2.5 seconds and a top speed of over 200 mph. KW Special Projects was technical supply partner.[1]

What to check before buying a used Solus GT

The Solus GT is a track-only car, not a road vehicle, so it has no NHTSA recall campaigns and no EPA rating, and it cannot be registered for road use. With only 25 customer cars built, provenance is checked through McLaren directly rather than public road-car records.

  • Track-only status

McLaren describes the Solus GT as track-only; it is not a road-legal car.[1]

  • Chassis identity

Only 25 customer cars were built, so the chassis number should match McLaren’s build records.[1]

  • No NHTSA recalls

The NHTSA recall dataset lists no McLaren campaign naming the Solus GT.[2]

McLaren Solus GT recalls

CarWhere found no NHTSA safety recall campaign that names the McLaren Solus GT in the U.S. DOT recall dataset. Check a specific car by entering its 17-character VIN on NHTSA's recall lookup.
