Founding and early years
Enzo Ferrari, an Alfa Romeo driver since 1924, founded the Scuderia Ferrari racing team in Modena in 1929 to race Alfa Romeo cars. In 1939 he set up his own company, initially called Auto Avio Costruzioni, and in late 1943 moved its headquarters from Modena to Maranello, where it remains.
In 1947 Ferrari produced its first racing car, the 12-cylinder 125 S, and in 1948 its first road car, the 166 Inter.[1][2]
Ownership and stock listing
The Fiat group bought a 50% stake in Ferrari S.p.A. in 1969, raising it to 90% in 1988 after Enzo Ferrari’s death, with the remaining 10% held by his son Piero Ferrari.
Ferrari N.V. held its initial public offering on the New York Stock Exchange in October 2015 under the ticker RACE. Its separation from FCA was completed on January 3, 2016, and on January 4, 2016, its shares were also listed in Milan on the market now called Euronext Milan.[1][3]
Recent models and volume
Ferrari launched six new models in 2025: the 296 Speciale, 296 Speciale A, Amalfi, 849 Testarossa and 849 Testarossa Spider, plus the first reveal phase of the full-electric Ferrari Luce. The F80 began deliveries in the fourth quarter of 2025, and the Daytona SP3 completed its limited series run.
The 296 GTS, Purosangue and 12Cilindri family drove shipments in the first nine months of 2025. Ferrari reported 13,640 car shipments for the full year, down 112 from 13,752 in 2024.[4][5]
Factory maintenance, warranty and Ferrari Classiche
Ferrari includes a 7 Year Maintenance Program, free of charge on new cars since 2011, covering regular servicing at intervals of 20,000 km or once a year. The Power warranty program can extend coverage up to the car’s 15th year.
A car that follows the full maintenance program up to its 20th year automatically obtains Ferrari Classiche certification. Ferrari’s 2021 annual report counted 73 Officina Ferrari Classiche workshops in its service network, plus the Ferrari Classiche department in Maranello for restorations.[3][6]
