What changed in the W164

The second M-Class moved from body-on-frame to a unibody structure and arrived for model year 2006, built in Alabama. US buyers got a 3.5-liter V6 ML350, a V8 ML500 that became the ML550 with a 5.5-liter engine, the 6.2-liter ML63 AMG, and diesel ML320 CDI and later ML350 BlueTEC models. All used the 7G-Tronic automatic. The 2009 refresh freshened the styling and interior, and a lease-only two-mode ML450 Hybrid appeared for 2010 and 2011.

0–60 mph figures are Mercedes-Benz-claimed unless marked † (instrumented magazine test). "—" means we could not confirm the figure from a source. MSRP is US base price at launch, excluding destination. Many Mercedes models are electronically limited (often 130 or 155 mph, higher with AMG Driver's Package); see trim notes.

Trim specs are the starting point; a car's options, paint and upholstery are recorded on its data card. CarWhere decodes a Mercedes-Benz GLE data card from the VIN — free availability check, $9.99 only if build data exists for that car.
