Mitsubishi Outlander problems and known issues

By CarWhere Research · Updated

The most common recent Outlander problem is a rearview camera that can freeze or go blank: recall 25V-369 covers about 198,940 2022–2024 Outlander and 2023–2025 Outlander PHEV models. 2022 models also had fuel pump and seat belt retractor recalls. Older Outlanders have corrosion-related recalls for liftgate struts, parking brakes and the front crossmember.

CarWhere lists 21 documented Outlander issues, including 21 NHTSA safety recalls, each with affected years, powertrains, symptoms, pre-purchase checks and a source. Recall entries come from NHTSA's recall dataset on the DOT open-data portal, which may not list every campaign, so run the specific VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup.

Frequently asked questions

What are the most common 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander problems?

The documented 2022 issues are recalls: rearview camera software (25V-369, 23V-345 and 22V-470), a fuel pump that may fail (22V-027) and seat belt automatic locking retractors that may not hold a child seat (22V-335, 21V-596).

What are the most common 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander problems?

For 2020, the recalls cover liftgate gas springs that may corrode and rupture (25V-507, 26V-252) and a second-row seat belt that may have been assembled incorrectly (20V-280). Check the VIN, since each campaign covers only some vehicles.

Does the Outlander have CVT problems?

NHTSA records show one Outlander CVT recall: 16V-563, a software reprogram for 2016 models that could hesitate when accelerating. Mitsubishi covers the powertrain, including the transmission, for 10 years/100,000 miles for the original owner only.

Is the Outlander rearview camera recall fixed?

Dealers fix it with an A-IVI software update. Recall 25V-369 replaces 23V-345, so cars repaired under the older campaign need the new update, and 2025–2026 models have their own campaign, 26V-549.

How do I check an Outlander for open recalls?

Enter the VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup or ask a Mitsubishi dealer. Recall work is free regardless of the car's age or owner.
