2026 update: bigger battery, more power
The 2026 Outlander PHEV gets a 22.7-kWh battery, up 15% in capacity, with a new cooling system that Mitsubishi says raises battery power output by 60%. System output rises from 248 hp to 297 hp.

How the Outlander PHEV drives
Every Outlander PHEV uses a front electric motor, a rear electric motor and a gasoline engine. Mitsubishi describes three operating modes: pure EV drive on battery power, series hybrid, in which the engine acts as a generator for the motors, and parallel hybrid, in which the engine drives the front wheels at highway speeds with motor assistance.
S-AWC all-wheel drive is standard on every trim. The first-generation model also offered Battery Save and Battery Charge modes to hold or rebuild charge on the move.[7][1]
