Ram TRX: history, specs and production
By CarWhere Research · Updated
The Ram 1500 TRX is Ram's supercharged off-road pickup. It was built for the 2021–2024 model years with a 702 hp 6.2-liter HEMI V8, ended with a 4,000-unit 2024 Final Edition, and returns for 2027 as the Ram 1500 SRT TRX, rated at 777 hp and 680 lb-ft.
Ram TRX history
Ram revealed the 1500 TRX in August 2020 as a direct answer to high-speed desert pickups. It took the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 from Dodge's Hellcat cars, rated at 702 hp and 650 lb-ft in the truck, and paired it with a wider body, long-travel suspension and 35-inch tires. Ram quoted 0–60 mph in 4.5 seconds and a 118 mph top speed.
The first 702 trucks were a numbered Launch Edition for the U.S. market, and Ram said all 702 orders were filled in less than a day. The TRX then ran through the 2024 model year; Ram ended it with a 4,000-unit Final Edition, and production finished in December 2023.
The name came back for 2027 with an SRT badge: the Ram 1500 SRT TRX uses an updated supercharged 6.2-liter rated at 777 hp and 680 lb-ft, with Ram quoting 0–60 mph in 3.5 seconds with launch control.[1],[2],[3],[4],[5],[6],[7]

Engine and drivetrain facts
- The TRX shares its supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 family with Dodge's Hellcat cars; in the 2021–2024 truck it was rated at 702 hp and 650 lb-ft.
- Ram quoted a 118 mph top speed for both the original TRX and the 2027 SRT TRX.
- For 2027 Ram credits a new valvetrain, higher fuel pressure, a smaller supercharger pulley and new engine calibration for the rise to 777 hp — about 10% more than before.
What changed over the years
- Aug. 2020TRX revealed as a 2021 model; 702 Launch Edition trucks offered and sold out in less than a day.
- 2021–2023Regular production on the fifth-generation (DT) Ram 1500 platform with a wider body and long-travel suspension.
- 2024Final Edition of 4,000 trucks; production ends in December 2023.

What to check before you buy one
- Confirm the truck is a genuine TRX rather than a dressed-up 1500: the VIN, the supercharged 6.2-liter engine and the factory build record should agree.
- Check for off-road and jump damage — bent control arms, damaged skid plates, leaking shocks and tire or wheel damage — and ask how the truck was used.
- Launch Edition and Final Edition trucks command a premium; verify the edition from the build record rather than from badges, dash plaques or a seller's description.
- Budget for running costs: big tires, premium fuel and frequent fuel stops come with a 702 hp truck.

How to verify a Ram TRX's factory options
TRX values depend heavily on edition and equipment — Launch Edition and Final Edition trucks, packages, and the 2027 SRT model. CarWhere checks a specific VIN for licensed factory build data and, when it exists, lists the equipment the truck was built with. It reflects factory build data on record, not necessarily every installed item or later modification.

CarWhere checks a specific VIN for licensed factory build data and, when it exists, lists the equipment the vehicle was built with — engine, transmission, axle ratio, paint, interior and option packages — in plain English. Coverage varies by VIN and model year and is strongest for recent vehicles.
