Lexus NX problems and known issues

By CarWhere Research · Updated

The most significant Lexus NX recalls are on the 2022–present second generation: missing front shock-mount welds (22V238), a DC-DC converter fire risk on the 2022 NX 450h+ (23V478), a driver-airbag spiral cable (23V480) and rearview camera and cluster software fixes. First-generation 2015–2021 NX recalls center on fuel pumps and airbag sensors.

CarWhere lists 13 documented NX issues, including 13 NHTSA safety recalls, each with affected years, powertrains, symptoms, pre-purchase checks and a source. Recall entries come from NHTSA's recall dataset on the DOT open-data portal, which may not list every campaign, so run the specific VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup.

Frequently asked questions

What are the biggest Lexus NX recalls?

On the 2022 NX, recall 22V238 adds missing spot welds at the front shock mounts and 23V478 replaces the NX 450h+ DC-DC converter because of a fire risk. Recall 23V480 replaces the steering spiral cable on 2023–2024 NX models to keep the driver airbag working.

Is the 2022 Lexus NX a good used buy?

It is the first year of the second generation and carries the most campaigns: shock-mount welds, the NX 450h+ converter, the parking-brake ECU, stability-control software, the rearview camera and the cluster display. All are free dealer fixes, so ask for proof each one was completed.

Does the NX 450h+ have a charging problem?

Recall 23V478 covers the 2022 NX 450h+ DC-DC converter, which can short-circuit and overheat. Until the converter is replaced, Toyota tells owners not to charge when the temperature is at or expected to fall below 41°F. Dealers replace the converter free of charge.

Which years of the NX are first generation?

The first-generation NX was sold in the US for the 2015–2021 model years as the NX 200t, NX 300 and NX 300h. Lexus launched the all-new second generation for 2022, and announced a heavily updated, hybrid-only NX 350h and NX 450h+ lineup for 2027.

How do I check a used Lexus NX for open recalls?

Enter the 17-digit VIN in NHTSA’s recall lookup or Lexus’s own recall and service-campaign lookup, or ask a Lexus dealer. Recall repairs are free regardless of mileage or owner, and the dealer can print the completed-campaign history.
