P2112: Throttle Actuator "A" Control System - Stuck Closed
P2112 means the engine computer commanded the electronic throttle to open but found the throttle plate stayed closed or nearly closed.
Standard title per SAE J2012 / ISO 15031-6 · Updated 2026-11-07 · By CarWhere Research
How P2112 sets
The powertrain control module (PCM) sends a command to the throttle motor and monitors throttle position sensor feedback. If the plate fails to open as requested and remains near closed, P2112 sets and the PCM typically enters a reduced-power strategy. Criteria are manufacturer-specific.
Common causes of P2112
Roughly most likely first; the actual cause depends on the vehicle and needs testing to confirm.
- Heavy carbon buildup holding the throttle plate shut
- Failed throttle actuator motor
- Stripped or broken throttle body gears
- Open or shorted motor control wiring
- Corroded throttle body connector
- Ice in the throttle body
P2112 symptoms
- Check engine light on
- Little or no response to the accelerator
- Limp mode or very limited power
- Low idle or stalling
How P2112 is diagnosed
- Retrieve all codes and freeze frame data.
- Inspect and, with the key off, gently check throttle plate movement for sticking.
- Look for carbon around the plate edge and the bore.
- Check commanded versus actual throttle position in live data.
- Test motor circuit wiring for opens, shorts, and voltage drop.
- Check for technical service bulletins on throttle bodies for the vehicle.
Typical fixes for P2112
- Clean the throttle body and run a throttle relearn
- Replace the electronic throttle body
- Repair wiring or connector damage
- Address icing conditions if applicable
Replace parts only after testing confirms the cause — a code names the circuit or condition that failed a check, not necessarily the faulty part. We don’t publish per-repair prices; for what households actually spend on upkeep, see car repair costs.

P2112 FAQ
What does code P2112 mean?
P2112 means the engine computer commanded the electronic throttle to open but found the throttle plate stayed closed or nearly closed. The standard definition is "Throttle Actuator "A" Control System - Stuck Closed."
Can I drive with a P2112 code?
Not comfortably, and not far. The engine may barely respond to the accelerator or may stall, so arrange repair or a tow rather than relying on the vehicle in traffic.
Why does the engine still idle with P2112?
Many throttle bodies have a default rest position slightly open, so the engine can idle or creep even when the motor cannot open the plate further.
Do I need a relearn after replacing the throttle body?
Many vehicles require a throttle position relearn or idle relearn after cleaning or replacement; follow the factory procedure.
