BMW 5 Series Build Sheet by VIN
Part of the BMW build sheet by VIN lookup — same free availability check, same $9.99 report, for every BMW model.
A BMW 5 Series build sheet shows how one VIN left the factory: trim (530i, 540i, 550e, xDrive), colors, upholstery and installed packages such as M Sport, Premium, Executive and Driving Assistance Professional. The 5 Series has one of BMW’s longest options lists, so the build record is the only reliable way to know what a specific car has.

What a BMW 5 Series build sheet shows
On a 5 Series, package content drives much of the price gap between two similar cars: massaging or ventilated seats, soft-close doors, the Bowers & Wilkins or Harman Kardon system, adaptive lighting and the assistance bundle. A VIN build sheet lists the factory trim, colors and installed packages recorded for that VIN when the build data includes them.
- • The factory trim, exterior color, and interior trim recorded for that VIN.
- • Installed factory options and packages, when the underlying build data includes them.
- • Original MSRP figures, when the underlying build data includes them — not every VIN or model year has this available.
- • A downloadable, printable PDF you can keep with the car’s records or share with a seller or lender.
Data density varies by model year and specific VIN — some return a full option and MSRP breakdown, others trim and color only. You see which applies before you pay. Not included: accident history, title brands (salvage, flood, lemon), odometer history, prior-owner count, service records.
BMW 5 Series options that matter most
Focus: G30 / G60 (and F10). Codes shown are from the BMW option code reference, listed only where that reference documents the code for this model's generation family (shown in brackets). Options marked “by name” appear on the build record under their option name — the code varies by model year and is shown on the build sheet for that VIN.
| Option | Code (applies to) | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| M Sport Package |
| Changes the look and chassis feel; confirm it on the record. |
| Premium Package |
| US comfort bundle; contents change by model year. |
| Executive Package | By name | The luxury bundle on many 5 Series model years. Listed by name. |
| Driving Assistance Professional Package | By name | Listed by name; a common reason two similar 5 Series differ in price. |
| Active seat ventilation, front |
| Ventilated seats are a strong preference item in hot climates. |
| Harman Kardon surround sound |
| Mid-premium audio; Bowers & Wilkins is the higher tier on some years (listed by name). |
| Head-up display |
| Verifiable on the record; invisible when parked. |
| Adaptive LED headlights |
| Lighting options are hard to spot by eye. |
| Adaptive M suspension |
| Adaptive dampers on M Sport cars; expensive to add later. |
| Steering wheel heating |
| A small option many buyers specifically filter for. |
On BMW production data the same codes are often written with an S prefix and A suffix (337 → S337A). See BMW SA option codes explained.

Where to find the VIN on a BMW 5 Series
- • Through the lower driver-side corner of the windshield (US-market cars).
- • On the certification label in the driver-side door jamb.
- • On the title, registration and insurance card.
- • In the My BMW app once the car is added to an owner account.
Example: a BMW 5 Series VIN, position by position
Illustrative example, not a specific car: WBA53BJ08NCA12345 is a check-digit-valid pattern that the federal decoder reads as 2022 BMW 540i sedan, 5-Series, plant Dingolfing (NHTSA vPIC). Nothing in the 17 characters describes options — those live in the build record for the VIN. Decode any BMW VIN free with the BMW VIN decoder.
| Positions | Value | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 1–3 | WBA | World Manufacturer Identifier — BMW AG passenger cars. |
| 4–7 | 53BJ | BMW model/type code — here a 540i sedan. |
| 8 | 0 | Restraint-system / vehicle descriptor character. |
| 9 | 8 | Check digit (validates the other 16 characters). |
| 10 | N | Model year 2022. |
| 11 | C | Assembly plant: Dingolfing, Germany. |
| 12–17 | A12345 | Production serial. BMW dealers often use the last 7 characters (positions 11–17) as the "short VIN". |
Build sheet vs. the BMW window sticker
The original window sticker (Monroney label) lists the factory options and their prices, but a used car often no longer has it, and BMW's own owner tools only show a car's records once the VIN is registered to an account. A CarWhere build sheet is the instant option when you are not the owner yet: This CarWhere build sheet is reconstructed from available VIN-level build data. It is not an official BMW Monroney label or factory certificate. Other routes — dealer printouts, service records, the BMW window sticker by VIN — are compared in how to find BMW options by VIN.

FAQ
How do I see what options a BMW 5 Series has?
The VIN does not encode options, but the production record is tied to it. Enter the VIN on this page for a free availability check; if build data exists, the $9.99 build sheet lists the factory trim, colors and installed options and packages when the data includes them.
Does the build sheet show the Executive Package?
When the underlying build data includes installed packages, they are listed by name — including Executive, Premium and driver-assistance bundles.
What is the difference between G30 and G60?
G30 is the 5 Series sedan sold for model years 2017–2023; G60 is the current generation from model year 2024, which also includes the electric i5.
Is the CarWhere 5 Series build sheet an official BMW document?
No. It is reconstructed from licensed VIN-level build data and is not an official BMW Monroney label or factory certificate.
