BMW M4 Build Sheet by VIN
Part of the BMW build sheet by VIN lookup — same free availability check, same $9.99 report, for every BMW model.
A BMW M4 build sheet shows how one Coupe or Convertible VIN was built: base, Competition or Competition xDrive, the gearbox, paint, interior and options such as M Carbon bucket seats, M Carbon ceramic brakes, the M Driver’s Package and carbon trim. Those options swing an M4’s value, so check them on the build record before you pay.

What a BMW M4 build sheet shows
An M4 build sheet lists the factory trim, colors and installed options and packages recorded for that VIN when the build data includes them — the carbon buckets, ceramic brakes, M Driver’s Package, drivetrain and gearbox that separate one M4 from the next.
- • The factory trim, exterior color, and interior trim recorded for that VIN.
- • Installed factory options and packages, when the underlying build data includes them.
- • Original MSRP figures, when the underlying build data includes them — not every VIN or model year has this available.
- • A downloadable, printable PDF you can keep with the car’s records or share with a seller or lender.
Data density varies by model year and specific VIN — some return a full option and MSRP breakdown, others trim and color only. You see which applies before you pay. Not included: accident history, title brands (salvage, flood, lemon), odometer history, prior-owner count, service records.
BMW M4 options that matter most
Focus: G82 / G83 (and F82). Codes shown are from the BMW option code reference, listed only where that reference documents the code for this model's generation family (shown in brackets). Options marked “by name” appear on the build record under their option name — the code varies by model year and is shown on the build sheet for that VIN.
| Option | Code (applies to) | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Competition Package |
| More output and retuned chassis on US M cars; a major value line. |
| Competition xDrive (all-wheel drive) | By name | Shown in the model and trim; the federal decoder returns it too. |
| 6-speed manual (base rear-drive coupe) | By name | Manual M4s are a specific search; confirm on the record. |
| M Carbon bucket seats | By name | Carbon-shell front seats; a strong enthusiast preference. Listed by name. |
| M Carbon ceramic brakes | By name | Gold calipers can be painted on; the record confirms factory ceramics. Listed by name. |
| M Driver’s Package | By name | Raises the top-speed limiter; invisible from outside. Listed by name. |
| Carbon exterior and interior trim packages | By name | Factory carbon versus add-on parts; listed by name. |
| M leather steering wheel |
| Wheel spec is a common aftermarket swap. |
| Harman Kardon surround sound |
| Audio upgrade worth confirming. |
On BMW production data the same codes are often written with an S prefix and A suffix (337 → S337A). See BMW SA option codes explained.
BMW M4 generations at a glance
| Chassis code | US model years | Build-sheet notes |
|---|---|---|
| F82 / F83 | MY2015–2020 | Coupe and Convertible; Competition Package (ZCP) on US cars; CS and GTS special models. |
| G82 / G83 | MY2021–present | Coupe built at BMW’s Dingolfing plant; Convertible from MY2022 (xDrive). Base, Competition and Competition xDrive. |
Where to find the VIN on a BMW M4
- • Through the lower driver-side corner of the windshield (US-market cars).
- • On the certification label in the driver-side door jamb.
- • On the title, registration and insurance card.
- • In the My BMW app once the car is added to an owner account.
- • M4 and other BMW M cars use the WBS manufacturer identifier (BMW M GmbH) rather than the WBA used on regular BMW cars.
Example: a BMW M4 VIN, position by position
Illustrative example, not a specific car: WBS43AZ07PCA12345 is a check-digit-valid pattern that the federal decoder reads as 2023 BMW M4 Competition xDrive coupe, 4-Series, plant Dingolfing (NHTSA vPIC). Nothing in the 17 characters describes options — those live in the build record for the VIN. Decode any BMW VIN free with the BMW VIN decoder.
| Positions | Value | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 1–3 | WBS | World Manufacturer Identifier — BMW M GmbH (M cars). |
| 4–7 | 43AZ | BMW model/type code — here an M4 Competition xDrive coupe. |
| 8 | 0 | Restraint-system / vehicle descriptor character. |
| 9 | 7 | Check digit (validates the other 16 characters). |
| 10 | P | Model year 2023. |
| 11 | C | Assembly plant: Dingolfing, Germany. |
| 12–17 | A12345 | Production serial. BMW dealers often use the last 7 characters (positions 11–17) as the "short VIN". |
Build sheet vs. the BMW window sticker
The original window sticker (Monroney label) lists the factory options and their prices, but a used car often no longer has it, and BMW's own owner tools only show a car's records once the VIN is registered to an account. A CarWhere build sheet is the instant option when you are not the owner yet: This CarWhere build sheet is reconstructed from available VIN-level build data. It is not an official BMW Monroney label or factory certificate. Other routes — dealer printouts, service records, the BMW window sticker by VIN — are compared in how to find BMW options by VIN.

FAQ
How do I get a build sheet for a BMW M4?
Enter the VIN on this page for a free availability check. If detailed build data exists, the build sheet is $9.99 one-time and lists the factory trim, colors and installed options and packages when the build data includes them.
Where is the G82 M4 built?
BMW Group says production of the M4 Coupe moved to its Dingolfing plant for the G82 generation, while the M3 sedan is built in Munich. The 11th VIN character reflects the plant.
How do I confirm M Carbon bucket seats or ceramic brakes on an M4?
Check the build record, where they are listed by name when the build data includes installed options. Seats can be swapped and calipers painted, so the record is the reliable check.
Is the CarWhere M4 build sheet an official BMW document?
No. It is reconstructed from licensed VIN-level build data and is not an official BMW Monroney label or factory certificate.
