Ford Explorer Build Sheet by VIN
Same lookup as the Ford build sheet by VIN — same free availability check, same $9.99 report, for every Ford model. Also: Ford window sticker by VIN · Ford VIN decoder · Ford Explorer trim levels · Ford Explorer known issues.
An Explorer build sheet shows how one VIN was factory-built: series and equipment group, engine (2.3L EcoBoost or the ST’s 3.0L V6), drive, and options such as BlueCruise or the ST-Line Street Pack. Ford reuses group numbers across years, so the record matters. CarWhere checks the VIN free and charges $9.99 only when detailed build data exists.

What a Ford Explorer build sheet shows
For an Explorer the build sheet sorts out what the badge can’t: which equipment group and engine, rear- or four-wheel drive, seating configuration, and the driver-assistance and appearance packages — including whether a 2025+ car was ordered with the BlueCruise plan.
- • The factory trim, exterior color, and interior trim recorded for that VIN.
- • Installed factory options and packages, when the underlying build data includes them.
- • Original MSRP figures, when the underlying build data includes them — not every VIN or model year has this available.
- • A downloadable, printable PDF you can keep with the vehicle’s records or share with a seller or lender.
Data density varies by model year and specific VIN — some vehicles return a full option and MSRP breakdown, others return trim and color only. We tell you which one applies before you pay. Not included: accident history, title brands (salvage, flood, lemon), odometer history, prior-owner count, service records.
Ford Explorer equipment group codes by series
From Ford’s 2025 Explorer Order Guide (dated 05/02/25). The equipment group is the three-digit-plus-letter code (like 302A) that sets the content level within a series. Ford reuses these numbers across model years with different contents, so read the code together with the year — more in Ford equipment group codes explained.
| Series | Equipment group codes (2025) |
|---|---|
| Active | 200A |
| ST-Line | 300A |
| ST | 400A |
| Platinum | 600A |
Ford Explorer options that matter most
Codes are transcribed from Ford’s own 2025 order guide (see Sources), with what they apply to in brackets. Options marked “by name” appear on the build record under their option name — the code varies by model year and is shown on the build sheet for that VIN when the build data includes it.
| Option | Ford code (applies to) | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Engine |
| The ST’s 3.0L V6 is the performance Explorer; the 2.3L is standard elsewhere. |
| Equipment group (2025 vs 2024 numbering) |
| The same code can mean a different trim in a different year — read it with the model year. |
| BlueCruise (1-year plan) |
| Hands-free highway driving; the plan status matters for what the next owner gets. |
| ST-Line Street Pack | By name | Optional pack on 2025 ST-Line (300A) whose content includes performance brakes per Ford’s guide — verify on the record. |
| Timberline (2021–2024) | By name | Off-road-oriented series of the sixth-generation Explorer (group 800A in 2024). |
| Class III Trailer Tow Package | By name | Standard on every 2025 Explorer per Ford’s guide; on earlier years it was an option worth confirming. |
Exterior color is a separate two-character code on the door-jamb label — see the Ford paint code reference and Ford door code explained.
Ford Explorer generations at a glance
| Generation | US model years | Build-sheet notes |
|---|---|---|
| Fifth generation | 2011–2019 | Front-drive-based Explorer; Sport and Platinum were the top trims. Options are best verified by name on the record. |
| Sixth generation | 2020–2024 | Rear-drive-based. Per Ford’s 2025 guide, the 2024 groups were Base 100A, XLT 202A, Limited 300A/301A, Limited Hybrid 310A, ST-Line 250A, ST 401A, Platinum 601A, King Ranch 701A and Timberline 800A. |
| Sixth generation (refresh) | 2025–present | Lineup narrowed to Active, ST-Line, ST and Platinum (table below). Note 300A now means ST-Line, not Limited. |

Where to find the VIN on a Ford Explorer
- • Through the lower driver-side corner of the windshield.
- • On the Safety Compliance Certification Label on the driver-side door jamb (B-pillar) — the same label carries the paint code.
- • On the title, registration and insurance card.
- • In the FordPass app once the vehicle is added to an owner account.
Example: a Ford Explorer VIN, position by position
Illustrative example, not a specific vehicle: 1FMUK8KH4SG012345 is a check-digit-valid pattern that the federal decoder reads as a 2025 Ford Explorer ST-Line 4WD with the 2.3L engine, built in Chicago. Nothing in the 17 characters lists the equipment group or packages — those live in the build record for the VIN. Decode any Ford VIN free with the Ford VIN decoder.
| Positions | Value | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 1–3 | 1FM | World Manufacturer Identifier — Ford SUVs / multipurpose vehicles built in the US (1FM). |
| 4–7 | UK8K | Vehicle descriptor — Ford line, series, body and restraint/brake coding; here Explorer ST-Line 4WD. |
| 8 | H | Engine code — vPIC reads a 2.3L I-4. |
| 9 | 4 | Check digit (validates the other 16 characters). |
| 10 | S | Model year 2025. |
| 11 | G | Assembly plant: Chicago, Illinois. |
| 12–17 | 012345 | Production serial number. |
Ford window sticker vs build sheet
Start with the free Ford window sticker by VIN lookup: when Ford's system has the original Monroney label for that VIN, it lists the factory options and packages with their prices. When no sticker comes back, the build sheet is the replacement — This CarWhere build sheet is reconstructed from available VIN-level build data. It is not an official Ford Monroney label or factory certificate. The other routes (door-jamb label, dealer printout, FordPass) are compared in how to find Ford options by VIN.

FAQ
Is 300A a Limited or an ST-Line on an Explorer?
It depends on the year. Ford’s 2025 Explorer order guide says Limited (300A, 301A) was deleted and ST-Line, formerly 250A, is now 300A. Always read the equipment group together with the model year.
How can I tell if an Explorer is a real ST?
The ST pairs the 3.0L EcoBoost V6 (engine code 99C in the 2025 guide) with its own equipment group (400A in 2025, 401A in 2024). The VIN’s engine character and the build record together confirm it.
Can I get an Explorer window sticker by VIN?
Try the free Ford window sticker lookup first. When Ford’s system returns no sticker for that VIN, a build sheet reconstructs the configuration from licensed VIN-level build data.
How much is a Explorer build sheet by VIN?
Checking whether detailed build data exists for the VIN is free and happens before you pay. If it does, the report — including the build sheet — is $9.99 one-time, no subscription. If it doesn’t, you are not charged.
Is the CarWhere Explorer build sheet an official Ford document?
No. This CarWhere build sheet is reconstructed from available VIN-level build data. It is not an official Ford Monroney label or factory certificate. When Ford’s system has the original window sticker for a VIN, the free Ford window sticker lookup returns that document instead.
