Ford tools & data
By CarWhere Research · Updated
CarWhere’s Ford hub collects free research for truck and car shoppers and owners: 12 engine guides from the 7.3 and 6.0 Power Stroke to the 3.5 EcoBoost and 5.0 Coyote, 88 trim levels with dated base MSRPs, 88 known issues and recalls by model, plus a VIN decoder, paint codes and pricing data. Every page lists its sources.
Fords are sold in more configurations than almost anything else on the road. One F-150 model year can combine six engines, three cabs, three beds, several axle ratios and multiple equipment groups per trim, so the trim badge rarely tells the whole story. These pages explain what each engine, trim and generation offered and what to check on a specific truck before you buy it.

Frequently asked questions
How do I find out what options my Ford has?
Ford records each vehicle’s trim, equipment group, powertrain and options against its VIN. The original window sticker or a build sheet decoded from the VIN lists them; the free VIN decoder shows the basics such as engine, body and plant.
Which Power Stroke is the most reliable?
There is no single official ranking. The 7.3 (1994.5–2003) and 6.7 (2011–present) carry fewer widely documented failure patterns than the 6.0 (2003–2007) and 6.4 (2008–2010), which have well-known cooler, head-gasket and fuel-system issues. The engine pages list each with years and sources.
What are the F-150 trim levels?
The current F-150 climbs from XL and STX through XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and the off-road Tremor and Raptor models. Each trim is sold in numbered equipment groups such as 302A on the XLT; the F-150 trim page lists them with base MSRPs.
What years did the 3.5 EcoBoost have problems?
Early (2011–2014) F-150 3.5 EcoBoost engines are known for timing-chain stretch and intercooler condensation misfires, and 2017–2020 engines for cam-phaser rattle on cold starts. The 3.5 EcoBoost page lists each issue by generation with sources.
How do I check a Ford for recalls?
Enter the 17-character VIN on NHTSA’s recall lookup or Ford’s owner site, or ask a Ford dealer to run it. Recall repairs are free. CarWhere’s known-issues pages list major recall campaign numbers by model and generation.
