Ford Equipment Group Codes Explained
A Ford equipment group code such as 302A names the content tier a vehicle was ordered in within its series. On a 2025 F-150, XLT comes as 300A, 301A, 302A or 303A, and Lariat as 500A, 501A or 502A. Codes are model- and year-specific, so read them with the model year — they are not in the VIN.

How Ford trim levels are built: series, group, package
Ford's order guides describe every vehicle in layers. The legend marks each item as S (standard), I (included in the equipment group), O (optional) or P (packaged option). That is why two trucks with the same badge can be very different: the series sets the base, the group sets the tier, and packages add the rest.
| Layer | Example (2025 F-150 order guide) | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Series | XLT, Lariat, Badlands, ST-Line | The trim name on the badge. Each series has its own standard equipment list. |
| Equipment group | 301A, 302A, 303A | The content tier ordered within a series (Ford labels them Standard, Mid, High, Lux and similar). |
| Free-standing package | 53T Tow/Haul, 55A FX4 Off-Road | A package added on top of the group, with its own code and restrictions. |
| Free-standing option | 477 Pro Power Onboard 7.2 kW | A single option, often requiring a specific engine or group. |
| Engine / transmission code | 99P 2.7L EcoBoost, 44G 10-speed | Powertrain selections; the engine is also the 8th VIN character. |
What the Ford 302A package includes (2025 F-150 XLT)
302A is the XLT “Mid” equipment group. Per Ford's 2025 F-150 order guide, it includes the following over the 301A Standard group (303A High adds 20-inch chrome-like PVD wheels, a B&O sound system, power-adjustable pedals and the Mobile Office Package on top):
- • Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 — 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control with lane centering and stop & go, evasive steering assist, front parking sensors, Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Pro Trailer Hitch Assist
- • Connected navigation (1-year trial)
- • Cloth 40/console/40 seats with 10-way power driver’s seat
- • Heated front seats
- • Intelligent Access with push-button start
- • Power-sliding rear window
- • Remote start with remote tailgate release
- • 400W outlets in cab and bed (2.4 kW Pro Power Onboard instead with the PowerBoost hybrid)
On 302A/303A, BlueCruise hardware with a 1-year plan is a separate option (601). Content changes by model year — earlier F-150s used the same 302A label with different contents.
Ford equipment groups by model (2025)
Transcribed from Ford's 2025 order guides. Ford reuses numbers across models — 302A is an XLT group on both the F-150 and the Maverick, with different content — so a code only means something next to its model and year.

Same code, different year: the Explorer example
Ford's 2025 Explorer order guide lists what changed: Limited (300A, 301A), XLT (202A), Timberline (800A), ST (401A) and King Ranch (701A) were deleted; ST-Line moved from 250A to 300A and Platinum from 601A to 600A. A 2024 Explorer coded 300A is a Limited; a 2025 coded 300A is an ST-Line. This is the most common reason a listing's “package” claim doesn't match the vehicle.
How to read the group on a window sticker or build sheet
On an original Ford window sticker the equipment group usually appears as its own line — for example “Equipment Group 302A Mid” — near the top of the options list, followed by the packages and options ordered on top of it. The VIN and the door-jamb label do not carry it. If the sticker is gone, try the free Ford window sticker by VIN lookup, then a build sheet, which lists the group and packages when the underlying build data includes them. FAQ
What is the Ford 302A package?
302A is an equipment group, not a stand-alone package. On a 2025 F-150 it is the XLT “Mid” group; per Ford’s order guide it adds Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 (including the 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise with lane centering and Pro Trailer Backup Assist), connected navigation, heated front seats, push-button start and a power-sliding rear window over 301A.
Is 302A the same on every Ford?
No. Equipment-group numbers are model- and year-specific. 302A is the XLT Mid group on a 2025 F-150 but an XLT group that requires the XLT Luxury Package (54L) on a 2025 Maverick. On the Explorer, 300A was the Limited in 2024 and is the ST-Line in 2025.
What is the difference between an equipment group and a package?
In Ford’s order guides the equipment group sets the content level within a series (items marked “I = Included in Equipment Group”), while free-standing packages such as the F-150 Tow/Haul Package (53T) or FX4 Off-Road Package (55A) are added on top and carry their own codes.
Where do I find the equipment group on my Ford?
On the original window sticker it usually appears as an “Equipment Group” line with the code near the top of the options list. It is not encoded in the VIN or printed on the door-jamb label. If the sticker is missing, a build sheet shows the factory configuration when the build data includes it.
Do higher equipment group numbers always mean more equipment?
Within one series and one year, the higher group generally carries more content (XLT 301A < 302A < 303A on a 2025 F-150). Across series the numbers are labels, not a ranking — compare what each group includes for that model year.
