HY-KERS hybrid system

The hybrid system pairs the V12 with two electric motors and a battery using cells developed by Scuderia Ferrari, where the F138 KERS technology was pioneered. Ferrari says LaFerrari makes almost 50% more horsepower than the Enzo and 220 hp more than the F12, then its most powerful car.

It was the first Ferrari road car styled entirely in house by the Ferrari Design Centre, and it won the 2014 Red Dot Design Award.[1]

LaFerrari Aperta

Ferrari introduced the open-top LaFerrari Aperta at the 2016 Paris show to celebrate its 70th anniversary in 2017. It uses the same 963 hp hybrid powertrain; production and shipments began in the third quarter of 2016, and the limited series run finished in 2018.[3][5]

What to check before buying a used LaFerrari

For a LaFerrari or LaFerrari Aperta, confirm with a Ferrari dealer that every applicable NHTSA recall is closed: three 2015 campaigns covered headrests, tire-pressure warnings and the driver airbag, and later ones covered fuel vapor separators and brake fluid reservoir caps. Ferrari also offers a Full Warranty Coverage Extension for these cars.

  • 2015 recalls 15V305000, 15V306000, 15V433000

2014–2015 LaFerrari campaigns replaced L32-seat headrests, corrected the tire-pressure warning message, and (2015 cars) replaced an improperly assembled driver airbag module.[6]

  • Later recalls 19V090000 and 22V536000

The 2017 LaFerrari Aperta needs a replacement fuel vapor separator; 2013–2015 LaFerrari and 2017 Aperta need the brake fluid reservoir cap and software fix.[6]

  • Full Warranty Coverage Extension

Ferrari offers a Full Warranty Coverage Extension for strictly limited series such as the LaFerrari and LaFerrari Aperta, applicable after the 36-month warranty.[5]

  • Dealer pre-sale inspection

Ferrari dealers offer an inspection with a certification covering authenticity, conformity to original specifications and state of repair.[5]
