Infiniti G35 engines, horsepower and mpg

Infiniti's 2006 ratings are per SAE J1349. We could not find an Infiniti release in its newsroom that states G35 Coupe output or 2003-2005 sedan output, so those are left blank. EPA rates the 2003 G35 sedan and coupe automatics at 17/24/19 mpg.

G35 years and body styles

EPA lists the G35 sedan from 2003 through 2008, with AWD G35x versions, and a separate G35 Coupe through 2007. A 6-speed manual was offered on sport models for both body styles.

If you want the most power, the 2007-2008 sedan's revised V6 is rated 306 hp. For 2006, the sedan's 6-speed manual version was rated 298 hp against 280 hp with the automatic.[12][3][8][4][1]

G35 recalls to check before you buy

NHTSA's recall records list two G35 airbag-related campaigns. Both involve sensors under the front passenger seat; ask for proof the work was done or have an Infiniti dealer check the VIN.

  • 10V175000 (Apr 2010): certain 2005-2007 G35 Sedans (built Mar 29, 2004 to Aug 25, 2006) and G35 Coupes (built Apr 1, 2004 to May 30, 2007). Wear and oxidation in the harness between the belt tension sensor and occupant detection control unit could interrupt the signal, and the passenger airbag might not deploy in a crash. Repaired free.
  • 08V521000 (Oct 2008): 2007-2008 G35 Sedans (with 2008 G37 Coupes and several Nissan models). An out-of-spec part in the occupant classification control unit could suppress the passenger airbag. Dealers test the system and replace the seat cushion if needed.

What to check on a used G35

Decode the VIN to confirm sedan vs coupe, generation and drivetrain: an x suffix (G35x) means AWD. Confirm the recall work above, and get a pre-purchase inspection, since the newest G35 is now more than 15 years old and condition matters more than the original spec.[4][2]

Infiniti G35 problems and recalls

Both G35 recalls in the NHTSA dataset that name the car involve the passenger air bag. Recall 10V175 repairs a seat-sensor wiring harness on 2005–2007 G35 Sedans and Coupes that could wear and stop the air bag deploying, and 08V521 tests the occupant sensor on 2007–2008 G35 Sedans. Earlier recall records in the dataset do not name models, so they cannot be matched to the G35 here.
