Infiniti G35 problems and known issues

By CarWhere Research · Updated

Both G35 recalls in the NHTSA dataset that name the car involve the passenger air bag. Recall 10V175 repairs a seat-sensor wiring harness on 2005–2007 G35 Sedans and Coupes that could wear and stop the air bag deploying, and 08V521 tests the occupant sensor on 2007–2008 G35 Sedans. Earlier recall records in the dataset do not name models, so they cannot be matched to the G35 here.

CarWhere lists 2 documented G35 issues, including 2 NHTSA safety recalls, each with affected years, powertrains, symptoms, pre-purchase checks and a source. Recall entries come from NHTSA's recall dataset on the DOT open-data portal, which may not list every campaign, so run the specific VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup.

Certain 2005–2007 G35 Sedans built March 29, 2004 to August 25, 2006 and G35 Coupes built April 1, 2004 to May 30, 2007 are covered. The wiring that links the seat belt tension sensor and occupant detection unit under the front passenger seat can move, wear and oxidize, interrupting the signal so the passenger air bag may not deploy in a crash. Dealers repair the harness free of charge. NHTSA lists 134,215 vehicles in the campaign.

Symptoms

  • Air bag warning light on the dash
  • Passenger air bag status light behaving erratically

Check before buying

  • Run the 17-digit VIN through NHTSA's recall lookup and confirm the remedy shows as complete
  • Ask an Infiniti retailer for the repair order showing the passenger-seat harness repair

Nissan recalled 2007–2008 G35 Sedans, 2008 G37 Coupes and EX35s, along with several Nissan models, because a part in the occupant classification system under the passenger seat cushion may be out of specification. That can interrupt the signal to the air bag control unit and switch the passenger air bag off. Dealers test the signal and replace the seat cushion with its sensor if needed, free of charge. The 204,361 figure covers units across all listed models, not just the G35.

Symptoms

  • Passenger air bag status light shows OFF with an adult in the seat
  • Air bag warning light on the dash

  • Ask an Infiniti retailer for the repair order showing the occupant-sensor test or seat cushion replacement

Frequently asked questions

Does the Infiniti G35 have recalls?

Two recalls in the NHTSA dataset name the G35, and both involve the passenger air bag: 10V175 for 2005–2007 G35 Sedans and Coupes and 08V521 for 2007–2008 G35 Sedans.

What is the G35 passenger air bag recall?

Under recall 10V175, the harness linking the belt tension sensor and occupant detection unit under the front passenger seat on 2005–2007 G35s can wear and oxidize, so the passenger air bag may not deploy. Dealers repair it for free.

When did the G35 come out?

Infiniti says the 2003 G35 sport sedan joined the lineup in March 2002 with a 260-hp 3.5-liter V6, and the G35 Sport Coupe went on sale in November 2002 with 280 hp.

How do I check a used G35 for open recalls?

Enter the 17-digit VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls and ask an Infiniti retailer whether the 10V175 harness repair or the 08V521 sensor test was done. On cars this old, service records also matter.
