The QX60's VC-Turbo engine, explained
Since 2025 the QX60 has used Infiniti's 2.0L Variable Compression Turbo engine instead of the 3.5L V6. A multi-link mechanism changes how far the pistons travel, so the compression ratio can vary between 8:1 for power and 14:1 for efficiency. In the QX60 it is rated 268 hp and 286 lb-ft and drives through a 9-speed automatic.
Infiniti says the switch added 16 lb-ft of peak torque. EPA rates the 2025 VC-Turbo QX60 AWD at 22/27/24 mpg, against 20/25/22 for the 2024 V6 AWD.[2][13][6]
QX60 vs the new 2027 QX65
Infiniti launched the QX65 for 2027 as an all-new two-row midsize SUV with a fastback roofline. It shares the QX60's 268-hp VC-Turbo and 9-speed automatic but has Intelligent AWD as standard. Infiniti says it is built at Nissan's Smyrna, Tennessee, plant.
The QX65 comes in LUXE ($53,990), SPORT ($56,090) and AUTOGRAPH ($62,990) grades before $1,575 destination. EPA rates it 20/26/22 mpg. If you need a third row, the QX60 is the Infiniti to look at; the QX65 seats five.[14][15]
QX60 SPORT grade
Infiniti QX60 generations by year
| Generation | US model years | Engines | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Second generation (refreshed 2026) | 2022–present | 3.5L V6 (295 hp) 2022–2024; 2.0L VC-Turbo (268 hp, 286 lb-ft) from 2025; 9-speed automatic | All-new for 2022 from $46,850, with a 9-speed automatic replacing the CVT and towing up 20% to 6,000 lbs. The VC-Turbo replaced the V6 for 2025. The 2026 refresh brought a new grille, dual 12.3-inch screens with Google built-in, ProPILOT Assist 2.1 and the first QX60 SPORT grade.[5][7][2][8][1] |
| First generation (QX60, formerly JX35) | 2014–2020 (JX35 for 2013) | 3.5L V6 with CVT (295 hp from 2017); 2.5L supercharged hybrid (250 hp net) 2014–2017 | Sold as the JX35 for 2013, then renamed QX60 for 2014 starting at $41,550. The 2017 update added a direct-injection 3.5L V6 with 30 hp more than 2016. EPA lists no 2021 QX60, so the second generation followed directly as a 2022 model.[9][10][11][12] |
